The enhanced subsidies that many Americans, including farmers, rely on to purchase health insurance are set to expire at the end of this month. James Davis, 55, who grows cotton, soybeans and corn in north Louisiana, said he doesn't know how he and his wife will afford coverage next year, when their insurance premium will quadruple, jumping to about $2,700 a month.

How's that MAGA working out for you?

Republican men love to claim women are overly emotional, especially when on her period.

You know when a woman's testosterone level is highest?

You know what Republican men are taking, for gender affirming care?
Testosterone.

That's why Republican men are so emotional.

There's at least one Deplorable here on testosterone. Probably more. I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of them are taking it, at least the ones under 50 where being manly is still part of their mythology.

If so,

Does the federal government have an obligation to address that problem?

If so,

What is the Republican plan to address the problem?

Also

What has the Republican party done to address the problem in the past 15 years?

Also

What measures were taken by Republicans to assist Democrats in addressing this issue when the ACA was being developed?

How the Heritage Foundation, a Conservative Think Tank, Promoted the Individual Mandate (2011)
www.forbes.com

...
This came up at Tuesday's Western Republican Leadership Conference Debate, where Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich tussled on the question:

ROMNEY: Actually, Newt, we got the idea of an individual mandate from you.

GINGRICH: That's not true. You got it from the Heritage Foundation.

ROMNEY: Yes, we got it from you, and you got it from the Heritage Foundation and from you.

GINGRICH: Wait a second. What you just said is not true. You did not get that from me. You got it from the Heritage Foundation.

ROMNEY: And you never supported them?

GINGRICH: I agree with them, but I'm just saying, what you said to this audience just now plain wasn't true.

(CROSSTALK)

ROMNEY: OK. Let me ask, have you supported in the past an individual mandate?

GINGRICH: I absolutely did with the Heritage Foundation against Hillarycare.

ROMNEY: You did support an individual mandate?

ROMNEY: Oh, OK. That's what I'm saying. We got the idea from you and the Heritage Foundation.

GINGRICH: OK. A little broader.

ROMNEY: OK.

(Romney was prepared to go on, but Michele Bachmann, in her usual role as the person who makes the debates less useful, interjected and changed the subject. ...)

I voted for somebody to address the unsustainable trajectory of medical inflation. Trustees of Health Plans were freaking out. I know: I was Trustee of a Health Plan, and we were freaking out, at a time when baby boomers were just about to enter high-risk pools.

I also stated, repeatedly, that while I was AGAINST Obamacare from the start, I'd give it props if it bent the medical inflation trajectory downward.

It bent the medical inflation trajectory downward. It also rebated monies to folks like me, when their expenses didn't rise to meet 80% of their premiums.

@#46 ... Republicans couldn't come up with anything better, so... ...

The basis of ACA, the mandate, was a brainchild of Conservatives (see #45).

Back in the day, I remember Conservatives strongly objecting that those who could not afford healthcare had the nerve to show up in emergency rooms for free health care.

An the bill for those visits were paid for by wealthy Conservatives via the fees they were charged by hospitals hoping to remain profitable for their wealthy owners.

So, the Conservatives instituted the mandate, which requires everyone to buy health insurance.

Was it the best solution, my guess is, that it was not.

But I've yet to see any better solution proposed by the GOP since then.

Yeah, lots of talk and vacuous promises, but no solutions.

...
Candidate Trump on healthcare:

May 21, 2015
I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.

Sept 25, 2015
Everybody's got to be covered.

Feb 17, 2016
We're going to have great plans. They're going to be much less expensive and they're going to be much better.

Oct 25, 2016
You're going to have such great healthcare at a tiny fraction of the cost, and it is going to be so easy.

Nov 13, 2016
It will be better healthcare, much better for less money. Not a bad combination.

...

Pres-elect Trump on healthcare:

"We're going to have insurance for everybody ... There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can't pay for it, you don't get it. That's not going to happen with us."
-- Pres-elect Trump to the Washington Post in January 2017

Pres Trump on healthcare:

"Our healthcare plan will lower premiums & deductibles -- and be great healthcare!"
-- Trump tweet in May 2017

...

It's been what? Up to a decade ago that Pres Trump has made those promises?

And... what has he delivered?

Aside from tax cuts for the wealthy at the expense of health-care for the workers.

What have Republicans offered to replace or fix the ACA?
What plan or measures do the Republicans offer to address healthcare costs?

I realize you will not answer that because you cannot, because Republicans have nothing, offer nothing, do nothing.

We'll assume you want it.
I certainly want it.

What do we call a political system where the people on both sides overwhelmingly want something, but neither party can give it to them?

I'm not sure what to call it, but if this is democracy, it's gotten pretty anemic.

This issue is like mythology of the Republicans being afraid to go against the NRA.

Both parties are ill-equipped to go after 18% of GDP in a system where that 18% of GDP can spend unlimited money on political influence.

But only the Republican party wants it to be that way, so strongly they've convinced themselves the Constitution demands it be that way.

Democrats are united in bashing GOP on Obamacare. Medicare for All could reopen a rift. (December 2025)
www.politico.com

... Progressives are pushing Medicare for All in some of the Democratic Party's most competitive Senate primaries next year, threatening the unity the party has found on attacking Republicans over expiring Obamacare subsidies.

In Maine, Graham Platner said he's making Medicare for All a "core part" of his platform in his race against Gov. Janet Mills, the establishment pick who's called for a universal health care program. In Illinois, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton and Rep. Robin Kelly are both championing the concept " and calling out rival Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi for not fully embracing it.

In Minnesota, Medicare for All has emerged as a key distinction between progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and moderate Rep. Angie Craig, who supports adding a public option to the Affordable Care Act rather than Medicare for All. Flanagan said she "absolutely" expects the policy to define the primary because "it doesn't matter if I'm in the urban core, the suburbs or greater Minnesota " when I say I'm a supporter of Medicare for All, the room erupts."

And it's become a flashpoint in Michigan, where physician Abdul El-Sayed, who wrote a book called "Medicare for All: A Citizen's Guide," is using his signature issue to draw a contrast with Rep. Haley Stevens and state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who favor other approaches.

Medicare for All -- government-funded health coverage for every American -- is "where we need to point to," El-Sayed said in an interview. "And I think you can galvanize a winning coalition around this issue."

But some more moderate Democrats worry that progressives' renewed push for Medicare for All would undermine the party's recent united front in fighting for an extension of the Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year, leading to a significant spike in insurance costs for millions of Americans. ...

#88 | Posted by eberly

It has a better chance!
Kinda depends on which Democrats.
Hakeem Jeffries Democrats, not so much.
AOC Democrats, getting warmer.

What I would expect is more Medicaid Expansion type stuff, which Republicans opposed until the math associated with a little thing we call "reality" became a problem. Kinda funny since that "reality" is money, and money itself is intrinsically of negligible value, but it's the only thing Republicans truly value at the end of the day.

Trump is slaughtering the goose that's been laying America's golden eggs for the past 80 years, and Republicans can't figure out if farmers need health insurance.

It's sad to see it all collapse, in real time, and Republicans can't see it happening, or won't lift a finger to save it, take your pick.

Take your pick; to not see, or to not care. Those are the two factions within the Republican Party.

Republicans, the friends of the insurance industry and the providers ... ... watched the democrats take money to leave the public option out of ACA and keep Medicare for all dead as a doornail ... ..and then subsequently working to kill ACA which was the biggest boon ever to both sectors. That isn't offset by the 40 million abortions?

You're the one who wants poor, sick babies forced to be born, not aborted if unwanted or unviable.

In democracy, cruelty that gets you un-elected is disfavored. Political Reality.

That's why Republicans are so engaged on making it harder for the victims of their cruelty, and people who have sympathy for the innocent victims, to vote. Political Reality.

Nothing more.

This evening it seems to be intent upon trying to disparage other posters and elicit replies.

I tried, but was not able to have any manner of a rational conversation with it.

But why, the apparent execution of that assigned task?

YMMV.

Yup.

Republicans seems to be on a crusade to deny, or make difficult, the abilty to vote of those who tend not to vote for Republicans.

But, I have to ask, how might their apparent denial of health care for workers align with their goal of denying those very voters the ability to vote?

"learning curve"

Learning didn't make HIV deaths go down. It helps a little, but it didn't bend the curve.

AIDS deaths consistently rose, for almost two decades, until ARV drugs were developed.

Shriekback - This Big Hush (1985)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt ...

genius.com

...
[Verse]
Is there a fire in the sky?
Is there a moon up there?
Is there anything alive now?
This darkness is what I hear
This is a breathless silence
A moment out of time
I see your face in the shadows
The telltale signs are in your eyes

[Chorus]
More than I can hold in my hands
Running through the gaps like water
Aching with a passion inside
Deep as the river
All desire, the ashes and the fire
Turning this night inside and the light from you

[Verse]
Is there a flame in the dark?
Is there a bright hard star?
These creatures look the same now
We freeze wherever we are
We wake alone in the blackness
We sleep wherever we fall
One dream all around us
This big hush infects us all

"It's a gay disease"

I wouldn't say that. HIV not really a significant concern for lesbians.

The biggest risk group is "men who have sex with men."

While there is some overlap, it is not the same group of people as "men who identify as gay," as you exemplify here daily.
