Lake Placid wasn't a vacation. It was a pilgrimage. I went there largely to stand inside Herb Brooks Arena, to see it with my own eyes. That building is a basilica built out of Plexiglas and bone chips. It is taped wrists and chipped paint and banners still humming with the ghosts who earned them. You walk in and history doesn't whisper " it crackles.
So when our anthem rolled out yesterday and those players stood there with gold medals blazing against sweat-slicked jerseys and split lips and taped knuckles, it wasn't just a ceremony, it was a coronation forged in collisions, it was history still sweating through its jersey.
And then " like a corporate watermark slapped across a Renaissance masterpiece " Kash ------- Patel.
Beer in hand. Medal around his neck. Smiling like he logged a shift instead of boarding a ------- jet.
Bug-Eyed Badge Goblin himself, blinking into champagne spray like the locker-room lights just startled him into sentience.
He's the loser kid who never made varsity and still hangs around the locker room pretending he forgot something. The towel-folder. The hallway hoverer hoping a little ball sweat might rub off and baptize him into relevance.
And now he's in Milan on our ------- dime " boarding a government jet we are all paying for " cracking beers like flight miles count as fight minutes.
He didn't bleed for that room. He boarded it.
