Guess the Santa Claus defense didn't work out. Nice to read some good news for a change.

He's being punished for having a different opinion!

"Prosecutors accused Gray of buying his son an AR-15-style rifle as a Christmas present and allowing him access to that weapon and ammunition despite warnings that his son was a danger to others."

First they came for the irresponsible father who bought his nutter son the weapon of choice of mass-shooters everywhere, and I said nothing...

This is the best news of a bad week.

This criminal's photo should be posted at gun stores and ranges nationwide, to help convince American gun owners to not do as he has done. It's simple: store guns and ammo in separate places, both locked up. Guns are stored with trigger locks or zip ties blocking the weapon from being in firing configuration. Those under 21 handle firearms only at the range or in the field, under the supervision of a mature adult, and their access to ammo is limited. No one goes home from the gun store without being trained in the carry and operation of the firearm, and all guns are carried in closed, secure cases...

"despite warnings that his son was a danger to others."

Except he knew better than all those weak-willed snowflakes, amirite?

#5 don't disagree with most of that, though I claim the age of 25.

What about parents of gang members?

Do the have culpability for not taking control of the situation at home?

Should it matter more less or same ?

Idk I see nothing wrong with parents getting in trouble, but seems like the US is picking and choosing which parents because of feel good reasons.

"Colt Gray, then 14, used that rifle to carry out a mass shooting..."

So he was 13 when dad bought him the rifle.

Can't wait for Trump's pardon!

Why would this father force his child to become a Trans and do a Mass Shooting?

Those are basically the rules in Canada, other than the age limit is 18.

Good. Next step is to apply this standard to cases of "negligence." No more "the family is suffering enough" defenses when kids find accessible firearms and kill themselves or someone else. There's no reason a gun should be lying around loaded with free access to anyone who wishes access.

This man was guilty of extreme negligence, and should be sentenced justly.

How did they get a 2nd Degree murder on him though?

AI Overview
Second-degree murder is a homicide committed with malice aforethought, intent to cause serious bodily harm, or extreme recklessness ("depraved heart"), but without premeditation or deliberation. It is generally an intentional, spur-of-the-moment killing or death caused by dangerous, impulsive behavior, such as shooting into a crowd.

Key Characteristics and Examples:

No Premeditation: Unlike first-degree murder, the act is not planned in advance.
Intent to Harm/Kill: The perpetrator intends to kill or cause serious bodily injury, but the act is impulsive.

"Depraved Heart": Extreme recklessness or acting with a conscious disregard for human life (e.g., severe drunk driving resulting in death, or firing a gun into a room).

Examples: A sudden fight leading to a death, or a severe beating that results in fatal injury.

Penalties: Generally, penalties are less severe than first-degree, but still carry serious prison terms, typically 15 years to life, depending on the jurisdiction.

This is all very clearly part of an Iranian terror plot.

Murder laws differ from state to state. Had you specified Georgia in your prompt then AI would have probably told you that they have a unique murder2 statute. In addition to manslaughter, Gray was also convicted of cruelty to children which in Georgia escalates the crime to Murder2 if it results in death.

Here's the text of the law.
"A person commits the offense of murder in the second degree when, in the commission of cruelty to children in the second degree, he or she causes the death of another human being irrespective of malice"

Good call on adding the State, I should have realized that. I was thinking too closely to MA law.

I said on a post about Gray a week or so ago and I'll say it again now that he is convicted, Gray's is a classic example of why you should NEVER talk to the police without your lawyer present, even when they are telling you that you are not suspected of any crime. Prosecution hung him out to dry using his own words in a trial that may never have occurred had he not been so open with investigators.
