Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

American Immigration Council senior fellow Aaron Reichlin-Melnick reacted in horror on Thursday to an allegation that a woman in Maryland hired a team of Guatemalan contractors to redo her roof at an expense of $10,000, waited until they were done " then called Immigration and Customs Enforcement on them to try to get out of paying the bill. The X account that posted a video of the alleged incident stated, "Woman even provides the ladder used by agent to detain men " who she owes $10,000 for 3 day job. 'She called the damn law on us and now we're totally screwed!' men yell in Spanish. 'They surrounded us! " They surrounded us!' Agents even left behind the workers' van with doors wide open " filled with thousands of dollars worth of tools.

I think that this story illustrates the very essence of MAGA.

Trump supporters are the scum of the earth.

If there is a hell, I expect that's where they'll all end up.

Smells like Russian agit-prop, at least in it's propagation, if not production.

I had an experience along these lines but not quite so bad.

Someone I knew was having a deck built on the upper story of their house (in FL) and the stucco repaired while workmen were up there.

Of course, the contractor brought a crew of migrants to do the work for cheap.

This was right around the time DeSantis was passing anti-immigrant bills and the person I knew was praising them (had made anti-immigrant comments in the past as well) and DeSantis. Also went on to make derogatory comments about the workers and the perceived lack of quality in their work.

I pointed out the hypocrisy of being so anti-immigrant but still hiring migrants to be cheap while b*&^%ing about them the whole time they're there.

That call ended quickly after that.

MAGA really is the bottom of our societal barrel.

I am not sure what the Lumpers are upset over. These are the jobs Americans won't do ... ie for FREE.

Isn't this what "making the jobs illegal" means? Sure she got a roof out of it, but she didn't pay them, whats fair compensation for slavery? Who is to say?
But imagine if one of these young lads hurt themselves. There's no compensation, there's no healthcare, no vacation. Sue the homeowner?? You still want these young men to sacrifice for you don't you?

I really have no issue with this. All I see in this thread is people being unable to take advantage of slave labor in the future, because someone got theirs.

This is why you want people to enter the country legally, so there's no BS.

Even if it is, its incredibly damaging to illegal hiring. I see these type videos every now and again. Imagine being an illegal immigrant and accepting a "job" now? You have to be cautious, isn't that how it should be?

I find it interesting is the whole group was illegal immigrants.

How ignorant and naive can people be?

This has been done for decades and decades.

Farmers used to hire hispanics to walk soybean fields and pull weeds. Technology has replaced that but it was work for illegals.

I know they were stiffed often and threats to call Immigration were used to shoo them away.

Construction, ag, etc...........not a new tactic.
