A case of New World screwworm previously believed to occur in Texas has now been reclassified by officials as a New Mexico case, involving a dog in nearby Lea County.
There are now five documented cases of screwworm in the U.S., including a dog in New Mexico.
It is important to note that the dog that had recently been in Mexico, so this doesn't imply that screwworm has already spread to NM.
But it's a good reminder that screwworm can infect any mammal.
