The parents of those girls whose safety was entrusted in the camp's owners will now get screwed again. Hopefully the owners will be held liable personally for their utter incompetence and gross negligence.

It's a poor business model built on land that is sure to kill everyone on it once every twenty years.

@2 Many decades ago my father told me that he worked for a small company in Brooklyn that supported the war effort-- meaning the Korean War or the Cold War. He said the family-owned company where he worked for ten years suddenly declared bankruptcy and everybody was out of a job and on the street.

He was reminiscing and he showed me some old photographs.

A few weeks later I took my retired parents on a picnic to New Jersey-- directly across Manhattan-- and after a half-hour's drive or so, I pulled up to this rustic, old brick factory with a dozen cars in its parking lot.

"Dad, do you recognize the sign?"

He was flabbergasted.

"But, but how could that be?"

This was the same company that declared bankruptcy in Brooklyn, now operating in NJ.

We ventured in and an old foreman was still there who remembered my father and they enjoyed a remarkable reunion. One of the family member owners was there as well.

After all the huckle-yuckle-chuckle, I finally cleared my throat and asked: "So, your company declared bankruptcy in 1960, huh?"

Embarrassed by my sudden question, the scion replied humble-mumble-chumble.

I stared at him, gave him a break and smiled, then took my parents to one of the parks near the Palisades for our delicious picnic that I had prepared.

During the repast and on the drive home, I had to explain to my parents the ruthless concept of bankruptcy to escape liabilities and paying pension checks.

Public Service Announcement: When you get a text that says flee now you're about to die from a flood, just flee. Don't decide to have somebody go stand around to see if you need to flee.

Outsourcing was used similarly all along the west coast using the locals to train their offshore replacements without their knowledge, then fire everyone and move the business.

Everyone I worked with at a fortune 500 lost their homes.

Capitalism is parasitic.

What were the consequences I listed?

No job. No home. Everyone all at once.

Consider the financial ruin caused by this hatred for paying even a living wage.

Also, unknowingly training your offshore replacement stings considerably, thus the secrecy.

Mustn't ignore the biggest factor - CAPITALISM IS PARASITIC.

Domestics that cost more than foreigners are parasites on profits.

Everybody knows that.

You ever read that book that was once touted as the basis for Capitalism, called Wealth of Nations?

Me either, but that's okay, because it's completely backwards since 1975.

Capitalism is about Wealth of Corporations.
The Labor Force is subordinate to the Nation.
The Nations are subordinate to Capital.

... you two aren't even close to the same page. "No job". There's a job. It's just elsewhere now. The parasitical framing is inexorably linked to the person that took the job.

f you guys, now southpark is in my head. THEY TOOOOKED URRRR JUBZ!

Just go ahead and hold hands with the anti H1-B crowd, it's the same message.

In the SF Bay area housing is extremely expensive and jobs were all moved offshore.

At the same time police were rounding up all of the homeless to drop them off downtown.

Thousands and thousands flooding the city - schools were shut down, businesses shut down - by design.

It was to increase funding for militarization of police and to purchase the properties - that's it.

Destroying and entire city with an incredible economic opportunity is parasite capitalism at it's more real.

So, you believe that it's fine, people will survive and move on. To where? Work where?

They simply don't want liberals or socialists or whatever else they frame us poors as.

Most of my workforce were under 30 - so these were their first homes, families and careers.

They weren't let go because of work ethic or capabilities - it's because of imposed costs and no assistance from or prevention of offshoring.

Ownership societies should be eliminated instead, imo.

H1-B is absolutely a cost saver for American tech companies, this is beyond dispute.

Are there qualified Americans to take those jobs? We'll never know.

H1-B should be coupled with a path to citizenship. Without that it's not a benefit to America.

Yes. 40% of H-1B are defined as Entry Level. The next 42% are defined as Qualified. These are intern and junior positions you can easily fill with US STEM grads.

7% are experts worth importing.

What was fascinating to me was entry level programming jobs at University of Michigan being slotted for H-1B.

LOL The argument that H1B is for unqualified Americans is pretty damn funny.

In the SF Bay area housing is extremely expensive and jobs were all moved offshore.

This is true, and false, Bay Area employes more people today than it did 20years ago.

Destroying and entire city with an incredible economic opportunity is parasite capitalism at it's more real.

Are you saying 20-30yo pulling down $250-$500K a year isn't economic opportunity? SF wasn't destroyed by capitalism it was destroyed by rich capitalist thinking crime wasn't really bad for the city.

Ownership societies should be eliminated instead, imo.

If you had no ownership nothing would get done, this has been demonstrated over and over again, small kibbutz, and large countries.
