Mr. Trump has spoken of Venezuela as though his only interest is the country's vast oil wealth, putting less focus on the democratic transition many Venezuelans are eager for. As recently as last week, the president told attendees of a conservative religious conference that since his successful "one-day war" in Venezuela, the U.S. has "taken out millions of barrels of oil, and we've paid for the war many times over."

But now, the two major earthquakes that left at least 2,000 Venezuelans dead and tens of thousands more missing and homeless have highlighted a dysfunctional state apparatus. ...

The reports I read stated that the oil revenue went to a bank account in Qatar.

Wish I trusted my government, even a little. Clearly, billions will be made from taking Venezuelans oil, but to to into the bank accounts of America or the bank accounts of some MAGA faithful, maybe related to Trump?
For the record, attacking a foreign country and killing many to kidnap the leader so their national oil could be stolen...a major war crime.
Not that war crimes are crimes anymore. Trump has been very effective in killing the rule of law.

"The Pirate is in jail."

I realize Trump has trashed the WH and ain't done yet, but being in the Executive Mansion is not synonymous with being "in jail."

The US staged a coup in Venezuela, replacing the authoritarian head of an authoritarian government with a new authoritarian head of the same authoritarian government. Along the way, the US designated itself the recipient of the revenues from the country's oil industry. This involves assuming certain responsibilities which are simply beyond the talents/abilities of the current American maladministration (which specializes in ensh#ittification and theft). Too bad bad for the poor Venezuelans, laboring under rapacious, repressive homegrown and foreign regimes.
