It's easier. You don't have to go to each PLC to manually program change or get data.

People do not believe it will ever happen to them. Until it does.

Also managers do not listen to the ITs.

Had the same problem with my managers. Until other offices got hacked and jacked. Then it was panic time. And had to stop the rush job I was working on to attend to the new rush job.

Agreed. It's laziness. And cost.

The war is so far away!

They thought it couldn't happen to them. But I am pretty sure they were all warned by their own IT dept. Which they ignored.

Also some of PLCs are located at remote locations. At customer locations.

Fortunately it's an easy fix. Unplug them take them off the net and removing their batteries returns them to their default settings.

Exactly.

Management typically sees IT security projects as a cost center with no return on investment. So they spend the money elsewhere, where it generates profits.

Until, as your comment notes, there is a security problem, then security becomes The High Priority.
