Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbot this week directed state authorities to audit all data centers in the state's queue before the facilities can be hooked up to the grid. Abbott's directive went out to the state public utility commission and its grid operator, ERCOT, requiring them to audit all data centers' electricity and water use before they can connect to the grid, The Hill reported. Any project that fails to comply with the requirements of the commission or ERCOT must be denied connection to the grid, Abbott's directive stated. To comply with the audit, data centers must provide information about whether they will provide their own power or utilize power from the grid, whether they are bringing and reusing their water, their estimated water consumption and anticipated water supply. They also have to provide information on any noise mitigation measures and information on who owns the facility.

Washington, D.C. Today, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), led all Democratic members of the Committee in demanding answers about EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin's illegal efforts to claw back federal investments in clean energy deployment that would spur economic development, lower energy costs, and reduce pollution.

Texas Republican Governor Jim Abbott is learning from NYS Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul about AI data centers.

Good for him.

What does this have to do with data center water or energy usage?

I was under the understanding that data centers were under moratorium in NY?

Did Kathy ascertain water or energy useage information? I haven't read it, perhaps you have a link?

Seems to me that if decisions are made without this information its unscientific. And if you don't have it, what science do you really follow?
