... Why it matters: Trump, who is slated to be the first felon in the White House, likely won't be tried for his own role in Jan. 6, but he's vowed to pardon the hundreds charged for their involvement.

Context: The pardon power skirts federal and military judicial systems as well as Congress.

- - - The president can grant a pardon to anyone convicted of a federal crime in a U.S. District Court, the Superior Court of the D.C. or a military court-martial. ...

Jan. 6 rioters

On the campaign trail, Trump vowed to "free" and pardon Jan. 6 rioters as one of his first presidential acts.

- - - "If they're innocent I would pardon them," he said during a July interview. When ABC News' Rachel Scott pushed back and said that the rioters were convicted, he said, "Well, they were convicted by a very tough system." ...

"Might"????

@#2 ... "Might"???? ...

Oh, I agree.

But regarding what Pres-elect Trump has stated...

imo, Pres-elect Trump has shown himself to be transactional.

Looking at it from a different angle, what will any pardon be a benefit to him, personally?

Pardoning the insurrectionists sends a signal that "Yes, I keep my promises, and I will pardon you if you break the law on my behalf." That in turn will make the people who work for him as well as his supporters more willing to do what the asks even if it is against the law.

Biden should pardon Hunter immediately. The gravity of Hunter's crimes don't even come close to eclipsing the criminal escapades of many Trumpers. Millions of people in the US are guilty of the same crimes Hunter has been convicted of. Yeah, there will be a lot of bluster from the media. Especially over on Faux. But frankly, Joe no longer has anything to lose.

Yes, Joe should pardon Hunter. He is a fool if he doesn't.

Biden should literally pardon EVERYONE. ---- over -------- planned retribution

#10 | Posted by truthhurts at 2024-11-11 04:56 PM

Pre-pardons for the entire Democratic party!

But seriously he probably should pre-pardon himself, his family members, the Obamas, the Clintons, Schiff, Pelosi, etc.

Is Putin's bitch going to posthumously pardon repug icon Timothy McVeigh?

Biden should pardon Hunter immediately.

Oh yea. Hunter.

Seems no one cares about him anymore.

Maybe one day we'll all see that email.

It's always been obvious corrupt DC Biden grift. But, it's now over. Nothing to do but pardon Hunter and fade away with the goods.

Epstein's rancid wingman has a history of pardoning cop killers so the J6 degenerates might be in luck.

Biden the liar might be thinking about pardoning all treasonous Democrats that have cost us many lives and raped women and killed many Amerivans with drugs and crime. Wouldn't surprise me. Deport them all! Every socialist Democrat should live in a socialist state and see how it works out for them

I can no longer stand Democrats ever since I experienced decades of them and their frothy lying anger .

-------, Trump is a rapist who snuffed out over 1 million Americans. It's a shame you weren't one of them.

Your ignorance is showing. The Undocumented commit fewer crimes than a legal resident or a US Citizen. Do try and keep up.

Trump made a dozen corrupt pardons and instead you focus on an imaginary biden pardon.

Typical.

Biden has one legal path left to save america from trump. He has too many ethics to use it though.

Trump won't have that issue.
