Who Really Supports Free Speech?

Judd Legum: For actual examples of government censorship, consider what is happening right now in a state that has embraced MAGA-style politics: Florida.

Elon Musk, by his own admission, is an illegal alien. But he's very rich and there is a completely different set of rules and laws for rich people and we all know it!

When one thinks of what Biden and Harris did to our country over the last 4 years it is infuriating. There is no country in the world except one, that is (NO WAS) run by stupid treasonous Democrats where unvetted foreign criminals can walz in and be put on an all expense paid welfare vacation indefinitely, while citizens here must have there own needs cut off because we gave away our money. I support deporting all the Democrats that supported this outrage being deported right along with the criminal rapist trash they brought in. We need a volunteer force of Americans willing to help and enforce with the deportation duty.

Snopes, debunking conspiracy theory ongoing for 8 years.

"Since our initial fact-check in 2016, public interest in Musk's immigration status has persisted, particularly with the meme's resurgence in 2024. Updated sources further confirm that while Musk's immigration status may have been complex at certain points, and despite claims made by The Washington Post, no credible evidence supports that he was an "illegal immigrant," in his brother's words."

So yes, if you support terrorists you don't want this bill to pass.

It's free speech when you like it.

Not so free when you disagree with it.

Cancel culture is alive and well across the entire political spectrum. Just depends on who is saying it and who is reacting to it.

Repubs get real mad when someone tries to defend the nation from a russian propaganda war.

#17 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-11-12 05:22 PM

Attention: Ukraine fron day one was about taking American taxpayer money and handing it to foreigners and corrupt Dems. They tried to portray the comedian in chief as a hero complete with PERPETUAL OD (olive drab) outfits. He never did anything for his people but his colluding insiders used ambulances to escape while others died.

Anyone putting Ukraine first puts USA last.

No one put ukraine first fool.

Funny how repubs went from wanting to oppose russian aggression to wanting to allow russian aggression and all russia had to do was start supporting republican election campaigns.

#20 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-11-12 06:24 PM

Anyone voting to hand over hundreds of and many multiple billions to Zelensky and his government and to other foreigners are voting to put USA citizens last or second. We must defend America first. That's how I see it!

missyfgt...

"conservative speech" is mostly made up of "alternative facts".

I know, it's something you'll take to your (hopefully soon) grave.

"alternative facts" AKA "conservative facts" are lies.

But you clowns like how they taste, so rational (read educated) humans will have to tolerate 1933 Germany in 2025 USA.

I so badly wish the left supports free speech. But they don't. The right isn't much better because it's conditional. Easy to support it when your speech is the speech being censored.

Brass,

"Cancel culture is alive and well across the entire political spectrum"

That might true but don't you think liberals play the cancel card much more than conservatives?

What books are the left banning and burning?

#29 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2024-11-13 09:53 PM

Alex,

I agreed that it is done by both.

But overall I've seen a lot more from liberals destroying lives....not just books.

#30 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-11-13 10:08 PM

Alex,

Cancel culture and banning are not exactly the same.

Banning books of a certain topic, etc.

Cancel culture has more to do with cancelling human beings.

#31 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-11-13 10:11 PM

Human beings wrote those books, bill.

WTF Seriously??

#33 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2024-11-13 10:18 PM

It reminds of the "Don't Say Gay" bill. I read "Gender Queer: A Memoir". It's available for free on the internet. It was called "Bold!" and "Provacitive!" by the media. It's a graphic novel for children. In it, two young boys climb into a strangers van, get raped, and enjoy it.

This is what Florida was trying to ban from children's school libraries, and Disney opposed that. So when it it comes to censorship, look at what the left wants censored (diversity of opinion) and what the right wants censored (pedophilia).

#34 | Posted by HeliumRat at 2024-11-14 01:23 AM

Laura,

When it comes to gays, few minorities have had to suffer systematically at the hands of humanity throughout history more than homosexuals.

It's not something unique to conservatives, though, and the policial system. Both conservatives and liberals in the past have done great harm to gay people.

That being said, I don't include this horrendous treatment when I say I have seen liberals doing more to destroy lives via the cancel culture than conservatives.

"Cancel culture" often targets individuals usually with the goal of affecting their personal and professional lives based on past or present actions or statements or beliefs deemed problematic usually by liberal or progressive groups regardless of the accuracy of the information or extreme bias of those offended.

However, cancel culture isn't a tactic only used by liberals. It was quite effective at removing Bud Light from it's number one spot in beer sales though that might be better classified as a boycott than cancel culture.

I have seen liberals use this tactic not only against conservatives, but also against their own who don't conform to the "group speak" beliefs.

#35 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2024-11-14 04:47 PM

Bill, you're just a stupid dumb ----.

"Cancel Culture" isn't a thing.

Some people are on occasion, facing a backlash against reprehensible speech or actions.

I am not required to support someone who verbalizes vile disgusting racist, homophobic, anti-trans people.

Disadvantaged and marginalized groups are able, on occasion, to reap some small measure of accountability on these people.

Ask yourself, who has been canceled? Can you name people that actually have been canceled?

I will laugh at you when you post examples of people on tv or the internet whining about how they have been cancelled.

BTW, conservatives are FAR more likely to "cancel" people per your definition, be they -----------, teachers in Florida etc.

Don't agree with any of her opinions but she was fired for expressing them.

Of course you'll claim some rational, as most cancel deniers will.
