Congressional Reports says COVID-19 Came from Lab Leak

A final congressional report on COVID-19 released Monday has determined the virus likely emerged from a lab accident in China and that the U.S. government perpetrated "misinformation" by incorrectly calling the lab leak theory a "conspiracy."

... The House Oversight and Accountability Committee's COVID-19 panel, controlled by Republicans, issued its 520-page report two years after its investigation began and ahead of a hearing this week.

The report affirmed what has long been the leading theory, stating that a "lab-related incident" involving gain-of-function research in Wuhan is the most likely origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Free COVID tests will be available again soon: How to get yours

Researchers had initially suggested that the virus emerged in nature and jumped from animals to people, probably at a wildlife market in Wuhan.

"Four years after the onset of the worst pandemic in 100 years, the weight of the evidence increasingly supports the lab leak hypothesis," the report stated.

The coronavirus was first identified in Wuhan in December 2019 before spreading worldwide and killing around 7 million people. FBI Director Christopher Wray has previously said the agency assessed that a leak from a lab in Wuhan "most likely caused the COVID-19 pandemic."

The report cites several reasons to back the conclusion, including that the lab in Wuhan is home to China's foremost SARS research lab, the lab had a history of conducting gain-of-function research at inadequate biosafety levels and that researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) were sick with a COVID-like virus in the fall of 2019, months before it was discovered at the wet market.

The report also further implicates New York nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance of using U.S. taxpayer dollars to facilitate gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab. ...

It seems very possible that Covid was developed in a laboratory. American politics have nothing to do with it. The corroborated circumstantial evidence is highly suggestive of that conclusion. Trump, Fauci, Biden - just disregard them all while trying to logically and scientifically figure out the most likely origin.

At the time, little was known about the virus besides the fact that many people people getting sick from it and flooding hospital emergency rooms. To the point that the hospitals set up beds under tents in their parking lots to accommodate the overflow.

At the time, it was also recommended that the goods you take home from grocery stores be wiped down with a disinfecting towelette. It was not yet known how the virus was transmitted, via touch, or airborne? All that was known was that the virus was being transmitted person-to-person, and quite easily.

What's the safe distance? It's been five years and we're still using a BS recommendation.

You're right, but for the wrong reasons.

It is a BS recommendation because we now know it spreads via aerosols that can stay suspended in the air for hours. No distance is enough if you're in an enclosed space with poor ventilation.

Also, distancing guidelines haven't been a thing for some time.

#78 | Posted by jpw at 2024-12-04 07:55 PM

It is a BS recommendation

Explain your theory.

Let's say I'm in an in closed space with a group of people and someone who has Covid.

If everyone is spread out, the chances of people getting it are lesser since people will have less of a chance to enter the sick person's space.

Compared to a scenario where everyone is packed together, causing more people to be in contact with the covid carrier.

Keep your distance, wearing masks, weren't to prevent you from getting COVID. They were meant to mitigate the spread.

Beginning on January 1, 2023, the U.S. survey foot should not be used and will be superseded by the "international foot" definition (i.e., 1 foot = 0.3048 meter exactly) in all applications. ...

OK, going with 1 foot = 0.3048 meter exactly, let's have some math fun...

Looking at the inverse, 1 meter = 3.280839895... feet.

So then, 2 meters would be around 6.56167979 feet.

@#79 ... Keep your distance, wearing masks, weren't to prevent you from getting COVID. They were meant to mitigate the spread. ...

My view is that masks slow the propagation of the virus, whether on the transmittal or receiving end.

Masks are a barrier that slow the propagation.

I look at people in an operating room all wearing masks.

In my opinion, that scenario for wearing mask is about the personnel in the operating room not passing ~thing~ to the open insides of the person they are operating on.

Regarding COVID, it was likely that someone infected could transmit COVID to others before that person even knew they were infected. So, self-isolation wold be too late under those circumstances.

#82 | Posted by LampLighter at 2024-12-04 08:24 PM

it was likely that someone infected could transmit COVID to others before that person even knew they were infected. So, self-isolation wold be too late under those circumstances.

That's why it was recommended for everyone to isolate and use PPE.

Because of that exact reason.

The reason it failed was because republicans are lunatics and decided the virus could be useful for eliminating densely populated regions. Specifically cities which tended to have more democrat and independent voters.

Yes, the United States was being attacked by a foreign entity (the COVID virus) and the Republicans, led by Pres-elect Trump in his first term, decided to join the invasion entity instead of trying to protect Americans from the invasion.

Trump's Disregard for Blue States Is at the Heart of His Shoddy COVID Response
nymag.com

... As the pandemic swept through largely Democratic-voting states like New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey this spring, the early response from the Trump administration was defined by a catastrophic mix of ambivalence and incompetence.

"Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment -- try getting it yourselves," President Trump said on a March 16 conference call with the nation's governors, abdicating federal responsibility and sparking a bidding war among the states for limited hospital supplies. At least one auction was sent into further chaos when the federal government outbid states on the contracts.

But the Trump administration's disregard for the massive loss of life was not equal: According to a Washington Post report from March 28, hard-hit, Democratic-leaning states like Massachusetts received only 17 percent of the protective gear requested from the national stockpile, while GOP-led Florida promptly received supplies it needed, despite a controlled outbreak at the time. ...

@#8 ... Trump's Disregard for Blue States Is at the Heart of His Shoddy COVID Response ...

So, back in his first term, Pres-elect Trump seemed to allow an invasion force to have its way because he thought that invasion force was targeting only his enemies (i.e., blue states).

And now, in Trump 2.0, he has indicated that he wants to use the US Military against his political enemies?

People who claim to have common sense, sure don't like to show it off.

According to JPW (Note: I have no reason to believe he is incorrect and I'm not an ----- like lamplighter asking for a link as if all knowledge is on the internet)

"It is a BS recommendation because we now know it spreads via aerosols that can stay suspended in the air for hours. No distance is enough if you're in an enclosed space with poor ventilation."

Look at you quoting Fauci today when it's convenient after saying he should be arrested for treason.

GFY.

Does not matter what Fauci "admitted" there is science AND common sense behind the rule.

Two things mags maroons like you are apparently allergic to.

#92 | POSTED BY VISITOR_

That's why you have a layered defense. Which would include a mask. Which you idiots were also completely irrational about.

So because some facilities have poor ventilation we shouldn't even try anything anywhere?

BTW- The poor ventilation was addressed in the COVID funding efforts as it became more obvious that was an issue for public schools, etc.

"The ARP provided $122 billion for the Elementary and Secondary Schools Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund to help schools prevent the spread of COVID-19 and recover from its effects, including by improving indoor air quality, so school leaders across the country can act now to improve ventilation in their buildings."

The elimination of Sanctuary Cities, Payroll Taxes, and perhaps Capital Gains Taxes, must be put on the table. Also lawsuit indemnification & business deductions for restaurants & ent." In 1929 there were only 130,000 Nazis out of 66 million Germans.

Yet the Nazis won because a significant portion of the German population supported the Nazi ideology to varying degrees, even though not all actively were participating in the party itself.

That said, the link you provided is referring to a transwoman situation and the multitude of difficulties in having a successful birth (which, I suspect has not been done yet!).

Bottom line: Not at all what you claimed, so try again.
