West Point Snubs Veteran's Advocate Tom Hanks

The USMA alumni association at West Point canceled an award ceremony for actor and veterans advocate Tom Hanks, citing a desire for the US Army service academy to focus on preparing future officers for war. Hanks (69) was to receive the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award, which recognizes an "outstanding citizen" who did not attend West Point and has a distinguished record of service that exemplifies the academy's ideals: "Duty, Honor, Country."

Hanks did call our current Commander in Chief a "simplistic, self-involved gasbag"

The military culture, whether you agree or not, you show respect for those who outrank you or are closely tied to the military.

This isn't the first time comments made long ago came back to bite someone.

His next role? Martyr. I can already picture him practicing his martyr's soliloquy in the mirror, with all the dramatic expression he thinks is expected of a victim.

"simplistic, self-involved gasbag"

One of the nicest things that could be said about our Traitor in Chief.

Trump hasn't liked Hanks since he caught Baron watching Shaving Ryan's Privates

Or you can just lie.

Don't know how the non-paywall link was changed. Here it is: Archived Link

"Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers and their family, and more for the American space program and all branches of government than many other Americans," Robert McDonald, a former secretary of veteran's affairs and the alumni association's board chairman said. In 1994 Tom Hanks portrayed a US Army Medal of Honor awardee who fought in Vietnam, "Forrest Gump." Mr. Hanks later played the parr of a US Army Ranger Captain who sacrifices his life in "Saving Private Ryan" (1998). 'SPR' makes for a near-perfect macho Judeo-Christian war film absent blacks, women, or homosexuals, but with a deeply religious Christian sniper. At the end of the iconic film, director Steven Spielberg films a military cemetery conspicuous with Christian and Jewish markers, but clearly none for atheists (atom) or Muslims (crescent moon and star): All White Judeo-Christian Graveyard.

FYI: Donald Trumpf Jr., who never worked a day in his life, nor had he ever served in the US military, applauded this contemptuous act by cronies loyal to the diabolical Trumpf junta.

Loose lips sink ships.

His comment about the military's Commander in Chief may cost him an award.

Lesson to learn.

Hanks comment was likely politically motivated.

He should have stayed focused on his projects and avoided politics.

GFY BILLJOHNSON. He has every right under the sun to speak about politics. The only reason why you are all up in arms about it is you disagree with the message. That's all ther is to it.

Is this about Hegseth's group texts?

#15 | Posted by ClownShack at 2025-09-08 03:36 AM

Laura,

"GFY BILLJOHNSON. He has every right under the sun to speak about politics."

Of course he does. Nobody said otherwise.

But here's the thing. When businesses (and celebrities are businesses) tie themselves to politics, they risk alienating half their audience.

Tom Hanks is a brand. Smart celebrities know better than to go near politics.

Others will look at this and say, "Yep, that's why I keep my mouth shut."

He thought insulting Trump was a safe bet.

#16 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-08 06:48 AM

Redial,

"Probably, since the CiC is a thin-skinned -----. I don't think he'll lose sleep over it."

That reply makes it pretty clear you've never served. You don't understand the culture.

At West Point, respect for the chain of command is not optional.

They cannot honor a man who called the Commander in Chief, the President, a "gasbag."

btw...your comment isn't consistent. You said he's "thin skinned but won't lose any sleep". They sort of contradict.

"Loose lips sink ships."

RomHanks isn't the one discussing actual attack plans with a reported included in the conversation; tell the Trump Cabinet not Hanks.

Danni,

When people can't handle a truth, they deflect.

Tom Hanks smug attitude bit him in the a**.

I watched Golden Globes once and Ricky Gervais delivering zingers as the host.

The camera cut away to Tom Hanks and I saw the self-righteous pr**k for what he was.

#22 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2025-09-08 10:26 AM

Danni,

I didn't know he was liberal.

But I did see his self-righteous face that changed my perception of him.

#26 | Posted by Zed at 2025-09-08 10:36 AM

Tom Hanks had a shocked reaction to Ricky Gervais' crude jokes. Bill Johnson thinks that makes him smug, because Trump is feuding with Hanks for no good reason.

You know Gervais is an atheist, right?

#27 | Posted by Alexandrite at 2025-09-08 10:41 AM

Remember when we had a president that didn't feud with Rosie O'Donnell and Tom Hanks on the internet?

Those were the good days.

S*&^bags like bill here don't actually believe in free speech. It was just something for them to whine about when their s&^%ty worldview was called out as such and they had no real defense other than to whine that they had a right to say s&^%ty stuff.

You're one of the most self righteous bitches here.

Come to think of it, if you can't stand self righteous people, that explains why you hate yourself so much.

#33 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-09-08 11:40 AM

Snoofy,

"Come to think of it, if you can't stand self-righteous people, that explains why you hate yourself so much."

There you go again. You're twisting my words.

Did I ever say "can't stand"? It's more like "would never bother knowing."

If confidence looks like arrogance to you, that's your problem. I've always noticed I mix better with strong, confident people anyway.

#37 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-09-08 02:22 PM

Snoofy,

"Nobody likes people like you."

Just like liberals once thought mainstream America was adopting their values when really, people were just tolerating them until they'd had enough.

Lewzer is a thin skinned pussy. Tom Hanks won't lose sleep over not getting the award. He already has plenty.

#41 | Posted by REDIAL at 2025-09-08 03:08 PM

"simplistic, self-involved gasbag" is a fair description of our "our current Commander in Chief". Any credible POTUS could simply brush it off. "simplistic, self-involved gasbag" is also a fair description of Bill Johnson.

#42 | Posted by Whatsleft at 2025-09-08 03:32 PM

Tom Hanks also has a Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Kennedy Center Honor. I wonder if the simplistic, self-involved gasbag is enough of a thin skinned pussy to revoke those?
