Trump Lost His War With Iran

In the midst of Vietnam, Lyndon B Johnson angrily and famously declared: I'm not going down in history as the first American President to lose a war'. But he did. And yesterday Donald Trump became the second to also lose one.

Comments

My view was this was a stupid war that never should have been started, but that once we started we had to see it through to an endpoint that clearly landed a defeat on Iran. Best I can say for things right now is that last night's terms appear to be a starting point. Because as things stand, the Iranian regime knows that it can survive a US onslaught and bring us to our knees by closing the Straits of Hormuz. This is pretty close to the worst possible ending. It would have been better to end it right after the first few days. Unreal.

Trump is the Chicken-Bully.

He'll attempt to avenge this humiliation by doing something else stupid.

The entire war was a crime. The beginning, the middle, now the ceasefire.

There should be accountability for Trump Netanyahu, they belong in prison.

Lives were lost, property destroyed, the war was started during bogus negotiations to lure the Iranians to drop their guard.

No Honor. No Sense of Justice. No common decency.

The US Israel acted like Nazi Pigs though the entire war.

I'm Glad they failed to achieve any of their prime objectives.

Trump: Threatens Iran with full force.

Dems: Trump is evil! His words are hateful and offensive! We're all going to die!

Trump: We have come to an agreement to ceasefire. The straight will be open and we're negotiating.

Dems: Trump has no balls.

Trump backing off was an unalloyed good thing.

If he throws the Chosen under the bus it will be even More of a shiny Good thing

Abandoning Israel at this time would be the Best thing I can think of.

*** Top Trumpf Aides Told Him Netanyahu's Pre-War Regime Change Forecast was Farcical' ***

"Benjamin Netanyahu's high stakes Situation Room pitch to Dummkopf Trumpf included a series of predictions-- such as Tehran being too weak to close the Strait of Hormuz or attack its neighbors -- haven't panned out at all."

~snip~

Billions and billions of dollars wasted, innocent lives lost, US military personnel killed, expensive equipment destroyed, fuel shortages, and environmental damage in the Middle East.

"So much winning!"

surely you aren't daring anyone to go back and regurgitate everything you've said since this war began.....

I certainly won't waste my time with it.

I'm just watching what happens but I'll gladly allow myself to be distracted by all the expert military and global geopolitical experts on this place wave their pom poms

As usual, the US demonstrated it has the tech and firepower to blow up lots of stuff. Winning wars? That's a whole other department.

And as for those pesky quagmires?

Historians are going to have a ball writing up this march of folly. Especially since they will find resounding echoes in some ancient memories.

Ben Rhodes
@brhodes
In the best case scenario, Trump struck a deal to reopen a Strait that was open before the pointless war he started, with the IRGC demonstrating its control over the Strait and potentially extracting fees plus sanctions relief. Thousands of innocents - including hundreds of children - dead in Lebanon and Iran for no reason. U.S. troops killed and wounded. U.S. embassies and bases in the Middle East badly damaged. U.S. standing in the world obliterated. U.S. munitions badly depleted. Hundreds of billions spent. Prices up everywhere. More global economic fallout to come. Putin strengthened and enriched. Just a catastrophic situation even in the best of circumstances. A profoundly shameful episode in American history no matter what happens next.

The Israeli army launched what it said were 100 air strikes at multiple locations across Lebanon in a span of 10 minutes.
