"a Russian disinformation campaign is being aimed at the 19 people who post on this most august site..."

How do you think Russian disinformation campaigns work? They deliberately do high volume/low level to create the illusion that the dis-info and discord is rising from the bottom up.

The article linked to in this thread looks like it was written by an AI bot. Why did you choose this dubious article from a site called "BoingBoing" rather than the original article it links to?

Trying to start a race war?

I've been reading the boingboing site for a while.

Dubious is not a word I would ascribe to it.

AI-generated research papers are being published everywhere (March 2024)
boingboing.net

Recall Recall? Microsoft's AI feature a hacker's wet dream (June 2024)
boingboing.net

First major AI music video divides fans: "creepy" or "artistic leap"? (May 2024)
boingboing.net

etc., etc., etc.

Indeed.

Yeah, the "boingboing" name may have not been the best choice.

But then again, "FoxNews" may also not have been the best name for a website.

Martha and the Muffins - Black Stations/White Stations (1984)
www.youtube.com

Lyrics excerpt...

genius.com

...
A voice inside my car told me today
There was a song of love they wouldnotplay
She was black,he was white
A voice inside mycar told me today

Black stations, white stations break down the doors
Stand up and face the music, this is 1984
Black stations, white stations feet on the floor
Dance on the ceiling with us, this is 1984, ha!

When I dream, I dream in black and white
Trip the light fantastic through the night
Dance with me while they sleep
When I dream, I dream in black and white

Black stations, white stations break down the doors
Stand up and face the music, this is 1984
Black stations, white stations feet on the floor
Dance on the ceiling with us, this is 1984, ha!
...

Background...

Black Stations/White Stations
en.wikipedia.org

... The song's title deals with the subject of racism in the radio industry, at a time when more cutting-edged songs and the radio stations in general were starting to open up to newer formats like rhythmic contemporary, which genre this song predates.

It also took on how station policies dictates what can or can not be played on air. This was evidenced by Johnson, who recalled how a radio station refused to play a song about an interracial relationship.

That experience prompted Johnson and Gane to write about their feelings over this practice by recalling the events, in which they use lyrics like "I dream in Black and White" and call for stations in general to "Stand Up and Face the Music/This Is 1984!"[citation needed]

The single was also controversial in its own right, as radio stations avoided playing the single because of the song's title and lyrics[citation needed] despite being a modest hit in Canada, where it reached No. 26. In the United States, the single peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 2 on the Dance/Disco chart, where it reached number 2 in 1984.[2] ...

I was able to access the local reporting linked in the Boing Bo8ng piece.

No mention as to why the father charged or what he said or if he even said anything.

I can't remember where I saw it said the father was mad because the daughter was being bullied and the superintendent did nothing about it.
But don't quote me on that.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case but since he was white and the superintendent black and it is Wisconsin of course the article would be about that and it is because racism sells. And he didn't charge the stage either. I expected to see a man running up to the stage - he didn't. This is the media we have created by monetizing clicks. Remember when everyone had to pay for a newspaper and there were just 3 or 4 local channels with news?

The chain of events will be the daughter's memory of her high school graduation. Nice move, Dad!

#25 | Posted by john47 at 2024-06-07 12:43 PM | Reply

From what I've read from the original article was that the father said don't touch my daughter. It seems he didn't want the black superintendent shaking his daughter's hand. I didn't read anything about her being bullied at all.

the father was mad because the daughter was being bullied and the superintendent did nothing about it.

Unless the superintendent was the bully, the father's actions were not appropriate.

Also, the father didn't charge the superintendent. He just walked towards him and prevented his black skin from touching his daughter's pure white skin.

Based on the reaction the superintendent did Nazi that coming.

Outside its major cities (and even within them), Wisconsin is an extremely racist place. Like out in the open, part of daily life type racism.

If you'd ever spent significant time in Wisconsin, as i and #33 can tell you, it is reasonable for the article to default to racism.

Our family has clusters of members in Wisconsin and California.

The California part of our family dreads Wisconsin and do not understand why they remain in the state.

It's family knowledge racism is out of control in Wisconsin, at least in mine.

Here is an article that is a few years old about something that happened at the same high school:

www.theguardian.com

FTA:

The picture's sweep of social media drew a torrent of denunciations and abuse from around the country against the young men, their teachers and Baraboo officials, including death threats. But the rural Wisconsin city is grappling with a more complex response that has opened a divide over how to see the actions of the teenagers in the photo " a question framed by some as being with or against the students.

Amid a series of community meetings, some in Baraboo are pressing for a collective apology from the boys even if it is accompanied by an acceptance that their salutes were more a prank than an endorsement of fascism. Others regard them as victims subject to a form of lynching with their futures tarnished by accusations of sympathy for white supremacy.

What? That can't be true.

Pretty sure that the Supremes declared that racism is over in America. That's why there is no need for affirmative action programs any more and no more need to give African Americans some kind of compensation for being held back for centuries and there are no more worries about gerrymandering them and weakening their voting power.

We are completely over it! Yay! We are all better now!

In fact, I am told that if you keep talking about it like that then it is YOU that are the racist one bro because you are using the "race" card (which I think is like using a Joker or wildcard to try and win an argument ... apparently).
