... With U.S. citizens and municipalities now a less reliable source of data, experts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have turned to the sewers to monitor the presence of infectious disease in our wastewater.

The results of those tests can provide an early warning system, according to the CDC, as trace amounts of the virus will register even before someone experiences symptoms. It takes about five to seven days for the flush of the toilet to yield results, the CDC says.

States that made "very high" list, as of August 9, include: California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Wyoming, Alaska, Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, New Hampshire, Alabama, Mississippi, Kansas, Missouri, Idaho, Minnesota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Minnesota, Maryland, New Mexico, Colorado, Massachusetts and Virginia. ...

And hot on its heels is mpox.

We did so well with that last pandemic this one should be a cakewalk. (For mpox)

The World Health Organization on Wednesday declared mpox a global public health emergency for the second time in two years, following an outbreak of the viral infection in the Democratic Republic of Congo that has spread to neighboring countries in Africa.

Clade II mpox is still spreading in the U.S., the CDC says, but in small clusters. Case counts have remained stable at around 250 per month. The Associated Press contributed to this report.3 days ago

As I am in a monogamous relationship not too worried about Mpox. Covid seems to be less virulent than it was a couple of years ago. I've had it once, since I am in general good health and vaxed chose not to go with Paxlovid as it seems to be less helpful in my demographic.

Just checked, mpox is not a STI. According to CDC:

Both clades can spread through direct contact with infected wild animals, through close contact (including intimate or sexual contact) with a person with mpox, and through contact with contaminated materials.

Mpox on door handles is a possibility, but I'm more concerned with Covid or any other general sickness, for now.

It really does. On a more serious note the problem we faced is that I have a large family at home still. And eventually everyone got it so it lasted and lasted and lasted. As one family member got better another got it. It would have literally been a ---- show if we had all got it at once though.
