Those were probably tears of pain from when his dad yanked on his wrist when the family was walking on stage together.

The guy is barely verbal for him to respond with sound is something that should be admired.

That's not what the condition means. Gus is very verbal - as we saw Wednesday night. The "non-verbal" in his diagnosis is related to the fact that he struggles to understand "non-verbal" social cues and actions like most people do. IOW, it's not necessarily things that he "hears" that trigger anxieties, it's his difficulty in understanding and contexting actions and expressions most of do naturally without much intentional thought.

It's not that he can't verbally express himself, it's that his mind struggles to understand why and how people interact socially as they do.

Well shtt.

I thought it was like being almost mute.

Now it sounds like me.

It's sad his father pulled him so violently on stage.

It's interesting Lumpers breaking the Internet for his son, then ignoring the abuse by his father.

Political pawn is all this kid is to Lumpers.

He's like Jeffy... he's become so embittered by being abused on the site, in his opinion, that he takes it personally rather than commenting on the day's news; demeaning libs and thinking himself above the fray and better by half than anyone here.

Of course, it might also just be a Number 3 Son Complex.

It's interesting Lumpers breaking the Internet for his son, then ignoring the abuse* by his father.

*Completely ignorant of how parents and caregivers are taught to use precise, repeated physical actions and methods under specific active circumstances - some which laypeople may misinterpret.

A gentle shove or tug may not work in every circumstance. Someone who loves and understands their son's condition and needs is fully aware that sometimes it takes physical force to correct behavior or lack thereof.

And this also goes to the fact that Gus is a stappling young man with great physical strength, something else the ignoranti on the right failed to observe when besmirching his emotional responses as coming from a lack of testosterone. He'd rip most of them to shreds if it meant protecting his family. I'd hate to see an angry Gus because it wouldn't be pretty for those he's pissed at.

Re 13
I assumed it was a typo of "strapping".

What did you assume? Stapling?

I assumed it was a typo of "strapping".

Typo, yes, but wrong guess on the word.

It should have been stripling.

Ooh stripling? A new word! (To me)

I love learning new words.

#16 | Posted by donnerboy at 2024-08-23 01:51 PM | Reply

Strapping works too. Both are applicable to Gus imo.

#17 | Posted by tonyroma at 2024-08-23 02:01 PM | Reply

Upon further review, Donner is indeed correct. Stripling is a noun, not an adjective.

#18 | Posted by tonyroma at 2024-08-23 02:03 PM | Reply

He's a strapping young man, definitely not a stripling!

Non-verbal Learning Disability is not limited to what a person hears but it's also related to how they see the world. Often they have problems with spatial recognition like not being able to tell time from an analog clock face. They also tend to be poor at math, and while it may also take longer for them to learn to read since that requires being able to recognize the shape and relationship of letters, generally, once they overcome that problem, they are known to be avid readers, which they use to compensate for some of their other issues. They are also generally introverts, again this makes reading a source of satisfaction for them. As for their raw intelligence, while it might be harder to measure due to problems with solving spacial problems which are part of most IQ tests, once issues like that are compensated for, individuals with Non-verbal Learning Disabilities are about as intelligent as anyone else.

Now we've got Right-wing media types suggesting that if Tim Walz knew that his son was going 'behave like that', he should have left him at home.
