White House to Require Insurers Pay for Mental Health the Same as Physical Health

Health insurers will be required to cover mental health care and addiction services the same as any other condition under a highly anticipated final rule being released Monday by the Biden administration.

From the perspective of corporate insurers, requiring them to cover the costs of mental health on a standard health insurance plan is like opening Pandora's Box. The costs metastasize.

Considering that the Republicans seem to say that those who do school shootings, and other gun violence, have mental health issues, I'd say that the Republicans should be fully in favor of this proposal.

Wasn't that already part of Obamacare?

I mean, I know my plan includes it, and while I haven't, I know people who have used it and haven't had any trouble getting mental health care covered.

The only thing I've seen people have trouble with is getting telemedicine mental health care covered, and that's because people who have issues with being in public or on camera have a really hard time getting voice-only therapy. That's definitely something that needs to be fixed.

Not every insurance provider was required to provide mental health coverage.

They're still not.

And even those who have provided it haven't been required to provide it equally to physical coverage. Obamacare required it but it hasn't been enforced.

And it still won't be enforced.

Biden is hoping carriers will do it to remain competitive.......because they are acknowledging they have no enforcement mechanism.

Passing laws isn't within the power of the executive branch.

And unless I missed it. I don't see anything about Biden signing an executive order to implement this statement.

It's a fat nothingburger.

Mental healthcare needs to be provided by the state. It would drastically help decrease homelessness.

Yes, and now address dental health, which is of critical importance. It is weird one can have insurance and not within it have dental care.
