"The Harris campaign will undoubtedly face intraparty criticism for the loss, but the widespread nature of Trump's gains suggests an electorate broadly unhappy with the incumbent party rather than a faulty campaign strategy. Although detailed demographic data is still developing, Trump improved on his 2020 performance in rural, urban, and suburban counties, in red states and in blue states, and with white voters as well as Latino voters. President Joe Biden is the most unpopular sitting president since Harry Truman. His vice president could not escape his political gravity." -- Zachary D. Carter

Sometimes people just want change. They may not know what type of change, and they may not end up liking the change. But is like a short term gust of fresh air. And, for today at least, those of us invested in the stock market are making a lot of money. In the mid and long term this election will prove very bad for the American people, America's stature and the polarization of our society. But for today many of us get a lot of money.

I feel that is going to be the trajectory the nation will on. Neither party is interested in solving the problems that ordinary Americans have so they will never be satisfied.

Big chunk of the blame belongs on the public themselves wanting $1/gallon gas, $1.50 for a loaf of bread, etc.

Those prices aren't coming back without a serious recession/depression.

Right now inflation is 2.7%, but that's not good enough for the entitlement society, so of course they vote for a guy who says he's going to lower prices but refuses to say how he is going to lower them. The reality is that he doesn't give a s**t about lowering prices. That will become apparent.

He did one thing off his to do list last time...cut taxes for billionaires. This time will be no different.

They may not know what type of change, and they may not end up liking the change.

That was 2016. The euphoria of change then lasted until 2018 after almost nothing he promised was accomplished.

This time will not be any different.

Couldn't agree more.

And the devil we've been dancing with is better than the devil we haven't danced with.

Not to call what we've experienced the past 4 years as "the devil".

Sometimes people are just plain ------- stupid.

Or evil.

this election will radically change America to something few of us can even comprehend.

The impact of 5 to 6 ------- SC justices cannot even begin to be understood. It is a likely a ------- justice (or several) will still be on the bench in 2060. or even 2070

The ramifications of a radical rightwing SC for decades is incomprehensible. The damage they can and will do with be transformative. We are talking going back to the gilded age, if not earlier.

We are talking massive changes to people's day to day existence.

As just a small example, women's roles in 2024 have been shaped by 50 years of access to abortions and contraceptives.

All of that will be gone.

People cannot comprehend what that will do to women. Their education and career choices will be greatly hindered by unwanted and unplanned pregnancies.

And the world has changed dramatically since the 60s. women are a necessary part of the work force. How on earth can most families survive on one income?

And that is simply one single factor.

America will be SHOCKED at the transformation.

Oh and prepare to have evangelicalism shoved down your throats

Hope not, if it is anything like the Trump years pre Covid, minus the constant harassment from the Democratic party ie Russia it should be a major improvement especially with foreign policy.

"...they vote for a guy who says he's going to lower prices but refuses to say how he is going to lower them."

Apparently it has to do with tariffs.

Somehow a tariff will lower prices in America.

I think I can parse a little of the "logic" ------- is using.

He wants tariffs in place that are so onerous that imports are reduced to zero.

He has said as much, as in he doesn't want foreign cars imported.

Well, ok, no foreign cars are imported.

that reduces the supply of vehicle in the marketplace. Prices go up.

How does that apply to foreign cars manufactured in the US?

How does that apply to American cars using imported parts?

American industry does not exist nor does the raw material exist to increase production to offset imports. In fact, it would take decades to undo the lack of industry and raw materials.

It would take destroying our environment, like China and India are doing.

And what about the retaliatory policies? how will that hurt american industries and farmers?

But, tariffs are ALL about the corruption.

You think Musk won't get exemptions for his businesses?

there is only one conclusion, Americans are stupid.

What I don't get is, if folks are mad about high prices, why aren't they mad at the companies charging them?
No one is forcing oil companies to charge >$3 a gallon.

-No one is forcing oil companies to charge >$3 a gallon.

you mean retailers?

Because they can't control the wholesale price of gas........

Exactly. If Trump carries through with his promises, I hope everyone is taking note of current prices. They're actually likely to get MUCH worse within the next two years.

And many of you low-ed Connies had better be ready to take the low wage jobs left open by deporting 10 million immigrants.

So, an incumbent party can't select a new path forward?
Sheesh ...

But wait, American workers can hardly wait to be out in the fresh air picking crops. And no more child care problems; bring them to the fields with you, kids love picking vegetables snd they will boost the family income!

So incredibly stupid :)

You'll get what you think you wanted, but it's not going to be what you thought.

Congratulations, welcome to Germany 1933 - American style.

I will be mostly immune, but you half wits and your children will not be.

Looking forward to your suffering.

It's gonna be entertaining :)

Aside from the fact that you characterize dissenting opinions as "constant harassment," how do you think it would be a major improvement with foreign policy?

Bernie sanders said it best - dems abandoned populism so they deserved to lose. This old man is just sitting there, being right about everything for decades, and the big money dems and media just shove him aside.

"Bernie sanders said it best - dems abandoned populism so they deserved to lose."

Trump picked up that mantle.

I subscribe to a German news outlet focused on expats. One of the comments was that the Trump victory was a win for the working class.

Obvious Democrat arrogance and hate for working American citizens is beyond the pale. Instead of learning, they hate. Anyone hear from arrogant Gov Pritzger and how he threatened Americans who disagree with Biden Harris illegal invasion?. Sounds like he threatens revolution.
