Laura,
"Pride goeth before a fall. Just remember that BillJohnson."
Obviously, you are failing to see whats in front of your own face.
I have been reading this site for years and have seen hubris and arrogance consistently from some of the regular liberal posters here.
You've just been handed your --- on a platter.
You are correct that pride comes before a fall.

Ham,
Ivy league colleges are turning out weaklings who can't handle losing.
The headline is fitting.

We are about to find out just how much hubris the Republicans have. As I was just writing about in another thread, if history is any precedent, they will do what they always do after a victory and massively overplay their hand. In the past what has happened when Republicans do this and royally screw up the economy, the American people turn around and re-elected Democrats as a check and balance to Republicans' bad fiscal policies and overreach. The thing that makes this election different is that the Republicans' plans this time around include "deconstructiing the administrative state" and consolidating as much power as they can into an imperial presidency. To the extend that they succeed, it may not matter going forward what the American people think as we will not be given the free and fair elections that have always allowed the American people to change their minds and course correct.

I'm not the one who played the pride card. You are.
I don't like poor winners either who gloat.
However I do find it funny you are so full of yourself you can't see this for what it is.
Not just you though. Liberals on TV are so convinced of their superiority they are incapable of seeing this as a moment of reflection.

Gal,
You have valid points.
But do realise this knife cuts both ways.
Politics and elections have always been a pendulum swinging left and right responding to the current issues of the day.

I do realise that. The American people are not fully pleased with either party. Those swing voters are called swing voters for a reason. When Democrats are in power, the Republican grass always looks greener. Then when Republicans are in power, people suddenly recognize the appeal of Democratic grass. The biggest tragedy of this election, beyond all the coming tragedies, will be if Republicans succeed in King Trump and his court running the country in such a way and to such an extent, that democracy itself is lost. They have indicated they want to emulate Viktor Orban's faux democracy in Hungary. If they do that, all bets are off.

Most partisans, regardless of their party, fail to realize that.

One of the things they want to do is end "Birthright Citizenship". If they can pull that off they can do pretty much anything.

Your "greener grass" seems to imply you don't fully realise some policies you support are genuinely unwanted or not good ideas.
Border, people here unvetted, men in women's sports, parental rights, energy policies, government fiscal accountability, social engineering, intrusive government regulations....and more.
Regarding civil rights there are still some problems of injustice and inequity.
But attitudes need to change. Some perceived "rights" are just that...perceived... and are not defensible.
Long of the short...that's my opinion.

Not to mention the big one... Constitutional rights.
That could include a whole lot of stuff the left and right need to talk about.

Okay, now make a list of the policies Republicans support that are genuinely unwanted or not good ideas, and then I'll believe you, too, realise what you wrote earlier:

Here's what I'd like to see from the Republicans.
Practical cost controls in healthcare Less skepticism around climate policy urgency Support safety nets alongside personal responsibility Balanced, practical immigration policies Gun regulation while respecting the 2nd Amendment. More emphasis on drug rehabilitation over punishment Support unions without overburdening businesses Increase mental health service funding Promote self-sufficiency with welfare support Simply progressive tax structures. Promote fair, affordable housing initiatives without rezoning.

Speaking of "nuts."
Let's talk about the headline you have put on this thread.
Why could those students not attend class?
From the article you cite...
... In Harvard's freshman dining hall Wednesday morning, Holtz joined a teammate to eat breakfast with College Dean Rakesh Khurana. According to Holtz, Khurana told students to "let yourself feel a bunch of emotions about how this is going to impact us in the future, and listen to other people and how they feel about it too." ...

To me the biggest difference between the parties is priorities.
One party might make something a very high priority the other party puts close to the bottom.
You can extrapolate from the lists things I think Republicans do not make high enough priority.

#33 I knew you wouldn't answer my question, Bill, because you don't think Republicans have any ideas that are unwanted by the American people or any ideas that are not good. That is blatantly false and the fact that you can't acknowledge this speaks volumes.
#35 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2024-11-09 10:40 AM | Reply
I did answer your question. Just not in the way you wanted.
I could have said, "significant tax cuts for the rich is a bad idea".
However, I think "simplifing the progressive tax structure" I listed would already include that.
The way I see things, Democrats and Republicans oftentimes have overlapping goals such as reducing inequality, expanding access to healthcare, addressing climate change, and protecting civil rights.
However, they disagree on how to prioritize these goals and how to achieve them.

This people is a prime example of magat scum ignorance.
reducing inequality-that has been the exact opposite of neo-liberalism since reagan, ask yourself why republicans are fighting against expanding overtime expanding access to healthcare-lol, I just can't, the concepts of a plan not withstanding, were you alive when the republicans tried to kill the ACA dozens of times, they will likely get their wish in the coming year addressing climate change-seriously how stupid can one human being be, seriously.
This is it, this is magat scum.

Bill here are the ----------------- positions on the above priorities:
1. Concepts of a plan for healthcare 2. During his campaign, Trump said he wants to get rid of virtually all Biden administration regulations intended to cut carbon emissions and move away from fossil fuels. He's also called for the repeal of the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden's signature climate law. John Yang speaks with Matthew Daly, who covers climate, environment and energy policy for the Associated Press, about what to expect. IOW MORE skepticism on cc urgency 3. IDK how to interpret this, ------- is going to try to get rid of Social Security, ------- will get rid of the medicaid expansion programs, 4. ------- is for literally NO gun control 5. I won't bother to disagree with this priority I support it as I THINK ------- did and of course any dem would too 6. ------- is vehemently anti-union 7. ------- has NO healthcare plan 8. Your comment is pretty nonsensical. ------- wants to eliminate or scale back social safety net, republican governors refuse medicaid funding. 9. LOL, ------- is about to cement the largest billionaire tax cut in history 10. What do you think will be the effect on housing prices when ------- deports the laborers building the houses?
Congrats you voted against everything you want.

Did I? You project magat scum.
You are experiencing what is called buyer's remorse, magat scum.
Buyer's remorse is a feeling of regret or anxiety that occurs after making a purchase, whether it's a significant purchase like a house or car, or a smaller purchase. It can be caused by: Internal conflict: The initial satisfaction of making a purchase is in conflict with the subsequent doubt or guilt about its value or necessity. Emotional and impulsive buying: These factors can lead to buyer's remorse.
Your current buyer's remorse is expressing itself in distancing (Bannon is horrible), projection (I support Clinton who is the same as -------)
Eat it -------, I am looking forward to continue pointing and laughing at you while you suffer for what you voted for.
