The White House barred a credentialed Associated Press reporter and photographer from boarding the presidential airplane Friday for a weekend trip with Donald Trump, saying the news agency's stance on how to refer to the Gulf of Mexico was to blame for the exclusion.

Republican grievances against the AP Stylebook's influential guidance on topics like race, gender and immigration have incubated for over a decade -- culminating in President Trump's expulsion of Associated Press reporters from the Oval Office.

Have these dumfux not realized that every country south of Mexico might be perfectly happy with the renaming?

I'm yearning for Uruguay.

There already was a Gulf of America, now called Nakhodka Bay

en.wikipedia.org

... Nakhodka Bay or Nakhodka Gulf (Russian: ", romanized: zalv Nakhdka), historically called the Gulf of America[1] ( , zalv Amrika), is a bay of the Peter the Great Gulf of the Sea of Japan, on which is sited the port of Nakhodka. It is part of the Primorsky Krai of Russia. The Lisy Island protects the bay from open sea waves. The word means '(lucky) find, discovery' in Russian.[2] ...

Wow, some history ...

en.wikipedia.org

... Background

For centuries, the Gulf of Mexico has been recognized by that name -- derived from the term Mexica (the Nahuatl name for the Aztecs). It began to be used on early European maps already in 1550,[1][3][4] and the name soon became established in international cartography and legal usage by bodies such as the International Hydrographic Organization.[5][6]

The idea of renaming the gulf to the Gulf of America was first suggested jokingly in the early 2010s.

In 2010, comedian Stephen Colbert humorously suggested creating a "Gulf of America fund" to help in the cleanup following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He said: "I don't think we can call it the Gulf of Mexico anymore. We broke it, we bought it."[7][8] I ...

So, this is all Mr Colbert's fault?

This is what a child does when their friends won't go along with their demands.

Pouts and cries.

I'm sure republicans support these actions. Why wouldn't they?

I'm sure we're going to have endless cycles of this kind of nonsense to keep the "news" reporters busy covering the important issues.../s

He'll do something dumb, they'll report it. Or they won't and then they'll report the predictable response.

Meanwhile, Musk uses his vague, undefined status to force us to live under his s*&^ty AI that's integrated into everything despite none of us asking for it.

Where is Jeff to whine about censorship?

Odd (not really)

I am shocked that this story hasn't gained more traction, but then again, that fact is an indicator of the impact on the freedom of the press is already under.

To be clear, this administration is denying access to a global news agency (the largest in the world IIRC) because that agency will not use a made up term for the Gulf of Mexico.

"The Associated Press is an independent global news organization dedicated to factual reporting. Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats and the essential provider of the technology and services vital to the news business. More than half the world's population sees AP journalism every day."

99% of the world still considers the Gulf of Mexico to be the Gulf of Mexico.

This is censorship people.

This is the essential purpose of the 1st Amendment's freedom of the press, that the government cannot dictate what a journalist organization publishes.

And no, jeff, advising a social media company that what is being posted might be contrary to their terms of service is NOT equivalent.

And, the fact that the other media outlets are not joining forces to support the AP is evidence that the intimidation is working.

I predicted that freedom of the press would be one of the first things attacked. And here we are.

You have been informed and educated. Be better people.

Have them call it The Gulf of America, so long as they continue to call the guy in the White House a fat orange criminal insurrectionist and golf cheat...
