Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

US Attorney General Pamela Bondi released the following statement: "Luigi Mangione's murder of Brian Thompson -- an innocent man and father of two young children -- was a premeditated, cold-blooded assassination that shocked America. After careful consideration, I have directed federal prosecutors to seek the death penalty in this case as we carry out President Trump's agenda to stop violent crime and Make America Safe Again." An indictment is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

As predicted, the US government must ruthlessly provide an example to the masses that truthful yet dangerous messaging and actions won't be tolerated. The federal government began its parallel prosecution of Luigi Mangione because capital punishment was de facto abolished in the Empire State in 2004. I can hear the future marching song now:

"Luigi Mangione's body lies a-mold'ring in the grave
Luigi Mangione's body lies a-mold'ring in the grave
Luigi Mangione's body lies a-mold'ring in the grave
But his soul goes marching on..."

Guy was such a cowardly wuss, as could not look man in the face to murder him, so shot him in the back.

If Luigi was truly a "cowardly wuss", he would have just wounded Thompson and then got into a jet fighter and dropped a bunker busting bomb on the hospital he was taken to, taking out some women and babies and maybe a paramedic or doctor or two.

Or he could have donated billions in American tax payer $$$ to enable someone else to do it for him.

But instead he focused on his target and did what he did without any collateral damage. And then he accepted the consequences like a man. But of course some American pseudo-military types affected with chronic cases of emasculation might tell you differently.

Some folks think that the multi-millennia-old conflict over who inhabits a chunk of land the size of New Jersey half a world away is the biggest problem our nation faces. If they whine long enough it will definitely get resolved.

Innocent man?

He's got a DUI conviction.

He is a guilty piece of ---- and the world is better without him.

His own children are better off without him.

Guy was such a cowardly wuss ...

Coming from a trumper (who's hero claims he can Shoot someone on Pennsylvania Ave and not lose a vote )that just doesn't have the impact you think it does.

He is facing his accusers and being held accountable for his actions by a jury of his peers in a court of law.

Something Trumpy is too much of a coward to do.

He was running from authorities wasn't he?

How is that facing accusers?

So you're for capital punishment for DUI?

But not murder?

Only because they get his inheritance earlier.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever read you post.

They're literally handing out guns in red state to anybody who has a free hand.

You really are an idiot, no wonder Trump appeals to you so much.

Not people.

Oligarchs.

"They want to make an example of him so folks learn never to shoot people"

If we didn't want people to shoot people, we wouldn't have a Second Amendment.

You're getting dumber with each post today, old man.

You better be hoping it's only alcohol related and not an aneurysm.

"Perhaps he was trying to be funny and we missed the sarcasm."

It is getting hard to tell if they are serious or not when every other headline and sound bite today sounds as if they come straight from the Onion.

Russian oligarchs
en.wikipedia.org

... Russian oligarchs (Russian: , romanized: oligarkhi) are business oligarchs of the former Soviet republics who rapidly accumulated wealth in the 1990s via the Russian privatisation that followed the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The failing Soviet state left the ownership of state assets contested, which allowed for informal deals with former USSR officials as a means to acquire state property.

The Russian oligarchs emerged as business entrepreneurs under Mikhail Gorbachev (General Secretary, 1985"1991) using various loopholes during economic liberalization under Gorbachev's perestroika.[1] Boris Berezovsky, a mathematician and former researcher, became the first well-known Russian business oligarch.[2]

Oligarchs became increasingly influential in Russian politics during Boris Yeltsin's presidency (1991"1999); they helped finance his re-election in 1996. Well-connected oligarchs like Roman Abramovich, Michail Khodorkovsky, Boris Berezovsky and Vladimir Potanin acquired key assets at a fraction of the value at the loans for shares scheme auctions conducted in the run-up to the election.[3] Defenders of the out-of-favor oligarchs argue that the companies they acquired were not highly valued at the time because they still ran on Soviet principles, with non-existent stock control, huge payrolls, no financial reporting and scant regard for profit.[4] ...

So, it looks like Pres trump is following the path led by Russia in the oligarchs' takeover of government.

Such a fine line, between Onion and QAnon.

imo, when a Republican utters the word, "privatize" beware.

Be very wary.

Selling the Country to the Oligarchs?

Be very wary.

@#21 ... Such a fine line, between Onion and QAnon ...

Not really.

The satires in The Onion seem to be based upon reality. That is why they seem to be read.

imo, reality and QAnon are mutually exclusive.

#23 | Posted by LampLighter at 2025-04-03 10:50 PM | Reply

Truth and QAnon yes.

But QAnon is a part of this reality, Their lies truly exist.
And if reality weren't that way, then there would be less of a need for things like The Onion in the first place.
Ya feel me brah

@#24 ... Truth and QAnon yes. ...

That was my point.

Moving on from that ...

... But QAnon is a part of this reality, Their lies truly exist. ...

Well, yeah.

And that seems to be a major issue with the MAGA folk, they seem to be so susceptible to believing outright lies.

imo, a sign of a cult, and not one of a political base.

"imo, a sign of a cult, and not one of a political base."

What the eff? What's the difference? You don't think Mao had a cult and a political base, both at the same time?

Let me throw a quote at you, you don't think he was talking about people like Trump?

"The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane."
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Do you know who Marcus Aurelius was? I don't, but he's like from 2,000 years ago and he can figure this shit out, what's your brain damage sir?

#20 | Posted by LampLighter

That appears to be the case.

The number of American billionaires increase from 100 to 2500 over the past 10 years. Watching tech bros like Zuckerberg suck up to Trump instead of using their positions to call him out as he attempts to destroy democracy is sickening. Watching Musk, Peter Thiel, and their ilk use their billions to subvert American democracy is disgusting.
