For reasons no one can understand, Trump is starting trade wars with our allies and the rest of the world. Just remember: It'll be the biggest peacetime tax increase ever, and he's demanding tax giveaways for billionaires while he forces prices up for YOU.

Trump thought that tariffs are a great idea, was contradicted virtually everywhere, and now is hanging onto the idea because his mental illness prevents him from considering ego-contradicting input.

Hope that the man dies soon. He'll be a billionaire because of his market manipulations but, hey---Dead is dead.

Just more liberal fearmongering. I heard that Uzbecky-beckistan is going to pay for it.

I heard it was the Dutch.

But no one has told them yet. They are still pissed about Trumpy Shady JD trying to fondle Greenland.

Adding insult to injury, any money raised won't be used to address pressing needs of our nation like improved infrastructure, health care, schools, etc. It will just be another tool Trump and the GOP use to funnel resources from the poor and middle class to billionaires.

Denmark - not the Netherlands :)

Trump doesn't care because this "tax increase" effects the working class FAR more than the wealthy. Those who need to spend their entire paycheck to live will be effected way more than those who don't. Such wide ranging tariffs are actually a way to pass that libertarian wet dream, the so called "fair tax". Where only purchases get taxed.

You mean that same working class that voted for Trump because they needed to spend their entire paycheck to live while Biden/Harris were in office?

No worries. Now that it's Trumpy's World many of those fine middle class people no longer have a "entire paycheck" or any paycheck to worry about.

FishPawn is eager for his family to be strapped with the burden of paying for Trump's tariffs and tax cuts.

Or perhaps FishPawn, and the rest of our resident Trumpers are secret billionaires who spend all their free time on the DR.

Whenever I read a response on DR by a Trump supporter, I'm reminded of Ron White's oh so true line " You can't fix stupid".

"For reasons no one can understand, Trump is starting trade wars with our allies and the rest of the world."

Republicans consider themselves so stupid that they can't understand what Trump is doing.

But they still trust Trump.

You can't make this stuff up, but you can live out your curtailed golden years in abject poverty because of it!

The reason is pretty simple, he's literally following orders.

Putin wants American influence removed from the world stage.

Republicans foolishly believe it's in their best interest to live in a failed nation.

And is only going to get worse because of Trump's policies.

What has Donald done to change that?

What did Republicans in Congress do to change that?

MSgt,
You are a fool.
And you shouldn't be proud of that fact either!

The highest supposed tariffs discussed in the posts were dairy and poultry products, which some users claimed were charged at over 200 percent. Clark explained that Canada has supply management regulations for these types of products, meaning that after an import quota has been reached for a specific exporter, they are charged a much steeper fee (archived here). These measures are allowed under USMCA.

Anti free-trade? Anti-interventionist? When did Trump become a Democratic Socialist?

The dude sounds a lot like Dennis Kucinich. Maybe even a bit like Bernie.

I surprised he is not more popular amongst the handwringers who frequent this site.

"Anti free-trade? Anti-interventionist?"

Those are contradictory, but I wouldn't expect you to understand how or why.

#20 | Posted by snoofy at 2025-04-02 01:56 PM | Reply

So... here's the thing. You can put Tariffs on luxury goods and survive without having any meaningful economic impact. If you've got to have that Hermes purse, you're already not considering the utilitarian value of the product.

This is different. Trump is taxing commodities and exchangeable goods. Nominally in an effort to "bring back good paying manufacturing jobs."

Not gonna happen. First-comparative advantage. The US already has a near absolute advantage in manufacturing, it's just not the best utilization of capital.

Second, bring manufacturing back to the US would cost tens, if not hundreds of billions of dollars. And at the end of it, the US companies are still not competitive with the global competition. Given the timelines involved, it's highly unlikey that investors would speculate in something so risk. There is a better than good chance that Trump will not be president in

And I wouldn't expect you to be able to explain it.
