REPORTER: Amazon will soon display a number next to the price of each product that shows how much the Trump tariffs are adding. Isn't that a perfect demonstration that it's the American consumer who is paying for these policies?

LEAVITT: This is a hostile and political act by Amazon.

In the confrontational interview with reporter Terry Moran, the president doubled down on his China trade war plan, claiming the Chinese will "eat those tariffs," when it is widely acknowledged that price hikes will be passed on to American consumers.

China is going to eat those tariffs like Mexico paid for the wall.

We can never thank Republican voters enough for sending the US towards another Great Depression. But don't worry, Felon Musk, Scott Bessent, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Bill Maher, Joe Rogaine, and the other well-paid junta members and Congressmen will be fine.

'In 1929 or 1930, Vaudeville comedian Eddie Cantor, who lost most of his money in the Wall Street Crash, joked that when he requested a 19th-floor room at a NYC hotel, the clerk asked him: "What for? Sleeping or jumping?"

The big question is why the White House would get their panties in a wad over tariffs if USans were supportive of them?

If people were fans of Tariffs, wouldn't they be thanking Amazon?

One must only conclude that USans aren't fanbois of paying more for stuff.

I'm all for busting out the prices. Makes it easier for those who want to choose brands mostly originating here. I think it would be great if each product had an offshore score.

While Mr. Bezos is at it maybe he could break out how much from each product goes into his toy rockets and spaceships.

I'm no fan of tariffs ... .. but I do think it is puzzling how so many folks thought increasing corporate income taxes wasn't going to jack up prices Did they really think Walmart and Amazon were just going to suck it up and cut profits?

What? Corporations got healthy tax CUTS during Trump's first term.

They spent their savings on stock buybacks instead of investing in new American facilities or raising wages to proper levels.

That's a little different.

Corporate income taxes are only on profits. It doesn't increase their overall cost of business. If they could increase product cost to increase profit, they likely would have already done it even before an income tax increase. So a fair income tax increase shouldn't necessarily increase product prices because prices are already set to maximize return.

Tariffs are on EVERYTHING. Profit or loss, the cost of doing business increases. So prices go up whether the market can bear it or not. Maybe not as much as the tariff but still they go up.

Think of it this way: A Business does $10 billion in revenue with a $2 billion profit margin (20%) selling at an optimum return price.

Put it in perspective with a imported product and a 10% corporate tax vs. a 10% tariff assuming a healthy 20% profit for the company:
Product Price per item: $100
Profit per Item sold: $20
Income tax on item sold by profit: $1
Tariff cost per item sold: $10

What if the product is made in the US with only 50% of the cost from imported parts:
Product Price per item: $100
Cost to manufacture and sell in the US: $80
Profit per Item sold: $20
Income tax on item sold by profit: $1
Tariff cost per item sold: $4
However, the other 50% of the US made parts are likely going up in price too because demand increases for local raw materials or third party parts: $1-$2

Tariffs are GREAT if they are targeted and low. You want more manufacturing? Tariff end products, not base materials. Demand goes up for base materials anyway in the US because more manufacturing takes place in the US as our products are more competitive price-wise with foreign products. But... the Trump tariffs...ugh.

#24 Thanks for the comparison, however, I wasn't trying to make the point that a 10% tarrif was in any way equivalent to a 10% corporate tax increase. The numbers are obviously more complex. My point is that ANY additional costs (tarrifs or coporate income tax increases) will be passed on to the consumer, not paid by the wealthy corporations or fat cat shareholders.

But you're wrong.

Corporate taxes don't generally get passed on unless they are high.

This is because corporations already price products as high as they can to maximize profits.

If profits are taxed, raising the price of the product actually decreases profits further by reducing sales.

Corporations can get around this by investing their profits and reducing their tax amount as well. So they have options.

That isn't possible with Tariffs.

And its WORSE for small businesses like single member LLCs who use pass through taxation or small companies whose main "profit" goes to paying an owner or small number of owners a salary. They only pay personal income tax rather than corporate taxes. But they still have to pay the tariffs.

Why is the White House opposed to this? Trump told us all how tariffs are good and will be paid by the other countries.
You'd think Trump would be wanting Amazon to show consumers how great this is for all of us if what he said about tariffs is true.
