Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said the federal government is moving to deploy the California National Guard in response to protests in Los Angeles over immigration operations that have resulted in some clashes between demonstrators and authorities. "The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers," Newsom posted on social media. "That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions." Newsom said local California authorities don't need the help. "LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment's notice," Newsom said. "We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there is currently no unmet need." Protests occurred Saturday in the city of Paramount, following reports of an immigration raid occurring at that location. However, Paramount Mayor Peggy Lemons later said during a news conference that agents were staging, not conducting a raid.

Those protests followed demonstrations Friday that came in the wake of immigration enforcement operations across the city. Federal agents raided multiple workplaces in the fashion district and other local areas on Friday, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, leading to hundreds of people, including children, being detained by ICE agents on Friday at the Edward Roybal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles, the ACLU said.

Newsom is trying to be the perfect moderate candidate for 2028.

Unfortunately for him, no one wants another Clinton Democrat, and a California Democrat is a hard sell to the majority of Americans.

Why should they stand down?

---- That. And ---- you too.

Illegal roundups of people to foreign Torture Prisons without ANY due process is a legitimate reason to riot.

The Fed has NO STANDING. California has jurisdiction.

Sanctuary Cities are NOT ILLEGAL.

Cutting federal funds to California is the MOST the Fed has jurisdiction of in this.

Trump is a criminal Usurper of State perogative.

When did the Republicans become So Anti States Rights?

When did Republicans become so Pro Federal Overreach?

Trump is the criminal here, not the rioters.

If the rioters are targeting federal buildings and federal employees it seems to me the federal government can plausibly claim jurisdiction. After the way left wing leaders handled the 2020 riots rep in NG on Newsome and co. To control rioting is a bad decision.

Just like Texas and LA the States have no jurisdiction on enforcement of federal law. Which is why the LAPD and Sheriffs offices didnt help the Federal agencies.

Burning a car, flipping off the police and riding a motorcycle is the typical mating call of the average deplorable Trumping MAGAt.

These are not peaceful protesters, rather they are rioters. Only one thing to do when rioters attack/assault LEOs [whether federal, state, or local ones] is arrest, charge, and try them in court.

Headline is inflammatory.

Just like Trumpy's actions. MAGA maroons are itching for a fight.

Newsom did NOT deploy the national guard.

They were completely unnecessary and have now they have inflamed the crowd causing it to swell dangerously. So dangerous now that the LAPD felt the need to put themselves between the feds and the protesters to try and protect and control the protesters.

Headline is inflammatory.

Only if you're misinformed about how the headline was created.

They were completely unnecessary and have now they have inflamed the crowd causing it to swell dangerously.

This is false, the Federal government has the authority to enforce federal law. The crowds were not allowing them to do that.
The crowd has agency, and could have protested elsewhere without conflict with Federal Agents.

So dangerous now that the LAPD felt the need to put themselves between the feds and the protesters to try and protect and control the protesters.

Liar, LAPD was called out because at night ICE went home but the protesters stayed.

@#4 ... next up is his declaring Marital Law. ...

My guess would be the next step would be the invocation of the Insurrection Act.

The Insurrection Act Explained (2022)
www.brennancenter.org

... The Insurrection Act needs a major overhaul. Originally enacted in 1792, the law grants the president the authority to deploy the U.S. military domestically and use it against Americans under certain conditions.

While there are rare circumstances in which such authority might be necessary, the law, which has not been meaningfully updated in over 150 years, is dangerously overbroad and ripe for abuse.

What is the Insurrection Act? ...

Gavin and Bass are walking into a 14th Amendment Equal Protection violation.

If a single 'protestor' should be arrested that is an illegal that assaulted the troops in any way, this should immediately be deemed a military invasion and Trump given wide powers to arrest and deport all the illegals without legal protections. They should be treated as partisan fighters and/or terrorists. Seize all assets, disappear them to black sites.

Yup.

Pres Trump has trod over States Rights in this issue.

Downtown LA declared 'unlawful assembly'; Newsom to sue over National Guard deployment
www.usatoday.com

... Tensions escalated in Los Angeles late Sunday between law enforcement and protesters as California National Guard troops arrived in Southern California to quell demonstrations against President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown, a move that the state's Democratic governor has called unlawful.

Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 Guard members over the objections of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who said Trump wanted to create a "spectacle." U.S. Northern Command said about 300 soldiers were on the ground at three locations in the greater Los Angeles area to provide "safety and protection of federal property and personnel." ...
