Does the President have a time period where he could wage war without the approval of Congress?

War Powers Resolution
en.wikipedia.org

... The War Powers Resolution (also known as the War Powers Resolution of 1973 or the War Powers Act) (50 U.S.C. ch. 33) is a federal law intended to check the U.S. president's power to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of the U.S. Congress. The resolution was adopted in the form of a United States congressional joint resolution. It provides that the president can send the U.S. Armed Forces into action abroad only by declaration of war by Congress, "statutory authorization", or in case of "a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces".

The bill was introduced by Clement Zablocki, a Democratic congressman representing Wisconsin's 4th district. The bill had bipartisan support and was co-sponsored by a number of U.S. military veterans.[1] The War Powers Resolution requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States. The resolution was passed by two-thirds each of the House and Senate, overriding the veto of President Richard Nixon. ...

So... it seems to be the answer is yes.

As if the twice-impeached, adjudicated rapist, 34-time convicted felon, insurrectionist-in-chief would let a little thing like the law slow his roll, anyway. SCOTUS has his back.

Acts of war should always require declaration by Congress but it hasn't happened since WW2.

It should have never changed but politicians got into the business of word games like "police action", "military advisors" and "weapons of mass destruction" that somehow circumvented the constitutional requirement.

SO it turns out that it was Steve Bannon at the WH today talking Trump into doing what Vlad and Russia want him to do on Iran.

Trump is such a stable genius.

A poll shows 60% of Americans do not want war with Iran. This makes sense as we are tired of the "Forever Wars" and all the post-war baggage that comes with it: Deaths, crippling injuries, PTSD, soldier drug addictions, toxic burn pit exposure, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and veteran suicides.

Americans want their taxpayer dollars spent on a national healthcare system, not another Muslim-killing spree in the Middle East to secure nuclear-powered Israel whose citizens all enjoy a top-ten medical system with universal coverage and whose social security pension system is ranked superior to that of the US.

Wars that seem to be caused more by Republican presidents than Democrat presidents.

That aside ...

When has Pres Trump acted in accordance with the will of a majority of Americans?

And, as a follow-up, maybe that is the President's job in a situation such as the Iran situation?

"When has Pres Trump acted in accordance with the will of a majority of Americans?"

Just as often as Biden did. You are ignoring that whoever is in the POTUS seat is doing everything against the will of the people if you are not in that person's party. This is Politics 101. However, one thing liberals have proven beyond any doubt at all and cannot be argued due to the ample mounds of real evidence is that they have a VERY difficult time accepting that people have any different opinions from them. If it's not the liberal narrative, then to liberals it means no other narrative is possible. So, I guess it's not surprising you have a hard time with Politics 101 subjects. Or, let me guess, you can find numbers online somewhere showing a poll that agrees with your narrative because, as every adult with an IQ over 100 knows, every metric you find online is 100% valid if it supports your narrative and every metric that doesn't means it's wrong.

I can't believe over 40 years later and I'm STILL having to listen to kids like this who think that anything is different today than it was so long ago.

EXACTLY. And yet, liberals STILL cannot hold themselves accountable for devolving into such a bad political party that a guy like Trump can actually get elected. Trump's win is not because Reps did well but because Dems have done that bad.

Are you implying that the folks involved in assaulting the Capitol on January 6th were liberals?

I know, it's so much easier to pigeonhole "them" than using one's cognitive functions.

There it is!

It's LIBERALS fault that idiots voted for Trump!

It can't be idiot Republicans for nominating him. It can't be idiot Republicans for voting for him. It can't be idiot Republicans refusing to hold him accountable. It can't be idiot Republicans for lying for him.

It MUST be LIBERALS fault! They cannot hold themselves accountable!

#16,

Amazing. Yes, it's the progressives fault, (not necessarily liberals, I'm learning to distinguish between the two), that Trump won. The Democrat party's inability to understand that immigration and Trans rights are losing issues with the people of the United States.

And not that Trans rights are that much of a losing issue, you just need to shut up about them and use common sense when presenting them.

That's what put Trump back into office. It's facts.

Lies are not facts you frickin maga moron.

Trump got into office on a mountain of lies.

Ipse dixit is not a "fact" based ideology or policy.

You bought a pack of lies that were repeated over and over until you believed them.

And now we are waiting for the DIC to decide whether we go to war?

That's Congress's job.

And so now Americans continue to FAFO with the TACO.

But this is what America voted for.
