Denmark, Greenland failed to win the Trump team over
The U.S. allies hoped meeting senior Trump officials would diffuse tensions and tough talk on Greenland. It didn't.

... Denmark and Greenland "still have a fundamental disagreement" with the U.S. over President Donald Trump's desire to control the Arctic territory, Denmark's foreign minister said Wednesday. Lars Lkke Rasmussen and his Greenland counterpart, Vivian Motzfeldt, finally had their chance to try to turn down the temperature at the White House after more than a year of aggressive internet trolling, statements and demands from the U.S. Their conversation did little to dissuade Trump and his team from their hold on Greenland. "We didn't manage to change the American position," Rasmussen told reporters after the meeting. "It's clear that the president has this wish of conquering over Greenland. We made it very, very clear that this is not in the interest of the Kingdom." ...

OK, my first question is ...
What right does Pres Trump have to justify his quest to colonize and/or annex Greenland?

What right does Pres Trump have to justify his quest
He thinks he owns the whole planet. There are things in Greenland that don't have his name on them yet.

@#3 ... He thinks he owns the whole planet. ...
... or is entitled to own the Western Hemisphere, if you can believe the National Security Strategy document he recently issued.
Regarding Greenland, imo, Pres trump's saber-rattling about security is just a cover for his true goal ...
The mineral deposits of Greenland.
Similar to your excellent recent comment about fentanyl being little more than Pres Trump's gateway drug to Venezuelan oil.
The mineral deposits in Greenland are Pres Trump's gateway drug to annexing Greenland.
(OK, that analogy doesn't work as well as your excellent comment   :(, but I suspect you get what I am saying ...)

"What right does Pres Trump have to justify his quest to colonize and/or annex Greenland?"
The same right Chancellor Hitler had to annex Czechoslovakia.

Germany and France (French Foreign Legion?) are sending troops to defend Greenland.
There will be blood. In Greenland, and here.
#6 | Posted by Zed at 2026-01-15 09:50 AM | Reply
Of course, it didn't. It was never going to.
We're dealing with people who are extremists and who are running the strongest military in the world as an enforcement arm of an organized crime organization.
The US government is basically a mob operation at this point.
There's no defusing tension with those kind of people.

I'm genuinely curious why China or Russia is expected to just up and take Greenland, when Greenland is part of NATO.
Any Republicans want to paint me a picture?

Careful, pointing to an accurate historical example like the annexation of the Sudetenland will get posters like ballwasher's hackles up.

Internal conflict with NATO is the point.
At this point, it's undeniable that Trump is a foreign agent under Putin. Every action of his weakens the United States in precisely ways that Russia and China would benefit from.

Look at the bottom left of www.centcom.mil's webpage.
There are press releases in Russian: www.centcom.mil
In my 27 years of service in the US Army and beyond, I have never seen anything like that until Dummkopf Trumpf seized power on 20 Jan 2025.

None.
I don't know how he would even do it.
Using AUMF as justification for Venezuela is extremely thin. He would need congress to approve an invasion into Greenland.
That said, I am extremely surprised at how many non-MAGA people are open to the idea of Greenland becoming the 51st state. I think it's dumb as hell.

Here's one reason..China is a "take and inch, then take the yard" type adversary. They play the long Game. Trump knows this.

I honestly think Trump is looking at the long game here.
He knows we need to shore up our presence in that area. That liberals would be against this boggles my mind.
I'm just glad we have an executive even thinking on this level, as past Presidents have not.

They have been doing those type of press releases since I was stationed at Macdill in the early 90's.

Boaz
Repeated after me.
Greenland is an allied nation protected by NATO.
Trump has no valid reason to invade other than to destroy NATO.
Putin couldn't be happier.

How many?
I'm sure you have your ear on the pulse of non MAGA Americans from your porch in Germany.

Not many in Greenland, but who cares what they think?

What people? Do they write Op-Eds? I haven't heard anyone who isn't MAGA say we should take Greenland.

Taking a nation by force is not "shoring up our presence in that area." And when have Liberals said we oppose expanding our military presence in Greenland?

"I honestly think Trump is looking at the long game here."
I honestly believe you are dain bramaged.
A two year game is NOT a "long game".
In 2 years (or even sooner) we begin to undo and reverse all of the damage and the insanity of the Trump Error and The Great American FAFO.

Trump embraces chaos and nihilism as a freedom from traditional notions of order and morality, allowing him to justify extreme actions and create new, often violent, values through the absolute power of the fascist state.
Reject chaos and nihilism and you will be better equipped to deal with the words and actions of him and his fascist death cult.

Right, Major DEI Boazo ? ? ? ?
Unless Pedodent Trumpf destroys NATO first.
But that's what you want, boazo.

Dumbasses to he blunt, but it's in the Water there.
I doubt Boaz even hears about other points of view in his local Community.
Which is Sad.
Ironically him posting here probably helps him move past his ingrained Prejudice against "Liburuls".

"Nobody wants to destroy NATO you idiot."
Put your thinking cap onto your brain housing group. If you still can.
If "Mr Nobody" attempts to take Greenland by force NATO according to Article 5 of NATO's charter NATO would be forced to defend it. We are part of NATO. Pretty much the main part.
That would be the end of NATO. I can hear the champagne corks popping in Russia from my front porch.

Yes.
I have even been to NATO Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) at Ramstein Air Base, which oversaw air and missile defense, etc.
But what does that have to do with the price of tea in Taiwan?

The Dummkopf Trumpf nominee to be US Ambassador to Iceland referred to it as the "52nd State" and that he would be the first US Governor of it.
Har-har-har.
Every US Senator that confirmed each of Dummkopf Trumpf's junta members and ambassadors should be flogged with micturated cat o' nine tails from dawn to dusk and then have Kosher salt basted into their open wounds.
