Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that body cameras would go to ICE agents in Minneapolis and to operatives nationwide when funding is available. Noem said that the move was in the interest of transparency, but there was no mention of having ICE agents remove their masks when conducting operations.

"...when funding is available."

On 29 Jan 2026, the New York Times wrote:

"The sweeping domestic policy law that Republicans muscled through Congress last year made ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement.

  • Republicans allocated $190 billion over four years, with $75 billion specifically for ICE, making it the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency.
  • Democrats warned that the funding would increase ICE's capabilities without sufficient oversight."

ICE agents are equipped with military-grade weaponry (e.g. assault rifles, firearm silencers. laser finders, night-vision goggles, explosives, and hi-tech Israeli hacking devices, while DHS is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to buy warehouses to store migrants like so much Amazon merchandise, yet Kristi Noem bleated that body cams will be deployed when "funding becomes available."

There is no "fixing" or "reforming" ICE and DHS other than completely dismantling them. INS can be reconstituted to pre-9/11 conditions and DHS functions can be returned to the FBI, US Postal Inspectors, USCG, the US Treasury and other agencies. Look how quickly the diabolical Trumpf junta destroyed USAID.

Lawless government organizations will never utilize any technology that provides data they will certainly have to make efforts to hide from public view.

What will be the contracted design specifications? Will there be mandatory failure rates or sensors that switch off the camera when a crowd control device is removed from its resting position or elbow mounted failsafe buttons that require constant pressure from the hand on the same side of the body as the sensor or a weight bearing sensor that switches off the camera when full weight bearing is detected or will there simply be no "on" button?

Decades ago a young Virginia State Trooper (VSP) menacingly placed his hand on his firearm like Doc Holliday while disrespectfully addressing me for allegedly speeding as I left the Pentagon and entered Arlington County, Virginia.

In full US Army uniform I asked him if he intended to shoot me.

The trooper became more belligerent with me in his body language and words.

After I finally agreed to sign the summons, I said "See you in court."

When my turn came up in court a few weeks later I asked the ADA to present the body-cam or vehicle-cam film as evidence that would both exonerate me and show how dangerous this VSP flatfoot was.

The young VSP Brownshirt whispered something to the ADA who then advised the judge the film was not available that day.

After I demonstrated to the court on a dry erase whiteboard that the trooper had no line of sight on me coming around the USAF memorial statue, the judge ended up fining me half the amount and no points were taken away from my license.

When I paid the fine, a court clerk said to me: "Colonel, that was a great demonstration on the whiteboard. These Virginia state troopers are all alike. They smile like angels in court but they're nasty to everybody outside."

If the insidious Trumpf junta wants to deport migrants, why spend hundreds of millions of dollars to buy warehouses to build ICE concentration camps for them?

    Q. How long does ICE intend to keep these migrants?

    A. Long enough for contractors to make money through them by feeding and housing them on the cheap. They will charge the hardworking American taxpayer $159 per day to lodge each migrant, but spend less than $26 on their daily nutrition. And lots of security jobs will be created for white Republicans.

They are actually expensive and previously ICE encounters were almost wholly non-violent and routine. Just raid a warehouse or farm full of essentially slaves and get them back to their own country, there wasn't any opportunities for violence to come up.

... DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced that body cameras would go to ICE agents in Minneapolis and to operatives nationwide when funding is available. ..

A good, but inadequate, first step.

    Next, remove the masks.

Then, and this is an important then, make ICE obey the laws that law enforcement have to obey.

Axios Explains: Inside ICE's superpowers (2025)
    www.axios.com

... The images of masked, heavily armed immigration agents snatching people off the streets and taking them away in unmarked cars have shocked many Americans " and led to a simple question: Is all of this legal?

It is " at least for now.

Why it matters: Since Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was created after the 9/11 attacks, its agents have operated with vastly more enforcement power, less transparency and fewer guardrails than local police.

ICE's rules were designed largely to give the agency broad leeway in helping the FBI identify and arrest domestic terror suspects.
Now the Trump administration is using that power to go after unauthorized immigrants " potentially millions of them " with a frequency and aggressiveness that has sent ripples through communities nationwide.

Zoom in: Under Trump, critics say, ICE has become the closest thing the U.S. has to a secret police force.

    - - - ICE agents aren't required to wear body cameras, can cover their faces, don't have to provide badge numbers or identify themselves, can arrive in unmarked cars and don't need a warrant from a judge to detain someone.

    - - - Like those with other federal enforcement agencies, they can ignore rules that govern local police departments, particularly those local agencies with histories of abuse or that operate under court-imposed restrictions on racial profiling.

    - - - In some cases, ICE agents can even arrest U.S. citizens " but they aren't supposed to place them in immigration detention units. Even so, a few U.S. citizens have been detained in recent ICE raids because of agents' mistakes or negligence. ...

Thanks to the ACLU, a federal judge has blocked ICE from using tear gas and other projectiles against volunteers protesting near ICE facilities.

    Summary:

"US District Judge Michael Simon ordered federal agents to cease using tear gas and other crowd-control weapons against peaceful protesters and journalists outside an ICE gulag in Portland, OR. His Honor ruled that the use of force by federal agents appeared to target journalists and protesters opposing the Trumpf junta's draconian deportation policies.

The judge stated that DHS culture appears to celebrate violent responses over fair and diplomatic ones, with senior junta apparatchiks condoning violence against protesters.

The ruling prohibits DHS agents from using chemical or projectile munitions unless the target poses an imminent threat of physical harm, and forbids firing weapons at the head, neck, or torso, unless legally justified by deadly force.

The order specifically bars DHS from using weapons, tear gas, or other irritants against protesters who are obstructing access or trespassing but not engaging in violence.

This order applies to protests near the Portland ICE concentration camp and is in effect for 14 days, with the possibility of extension."

    ~snip~

Technically and legally under 28 US Code 566, Deputy US Marshals can be deployed to enforce USDJ Michael Simon's restraining order against ICE.

During the 1960s, Deputy US Marshals (DUSMs) were deployed in the Deep South to enforce court orders against segregation.

Whether anyone the DUSMs encountered were ever prosecuted, I don't know. But their presence was effective.

And I'll wager Dummkopf Trumpf will pardon any ICE ruffian from federal convictions.

But those pardons can't be applied to state convictions or to civil unlawful death lawsuits at the federal or state level.

The murderers of Renee Good and Alex Pretti can be sued and can face state homicide charges.

    #31 | Posted by C0RI0LANUS at 2026-02-04 01:44 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

    California has got your backs.

Be advised that violations of California state law may be investigated by any state or local law enforcement agency, even if the potential violations involve federal agents or officers.

    See e.g. Idaho v. Horiuchi (9th Cir. 2000) 215 F.3d 986, vacated as moot by Idaho v. Horiuchi (9th Cir. 2001) 266 F.3d 979.

And where the facts warrant it, state or local prosecutors may file charges against federal agents or officers for violations of state criminal laws.

    See In re Neagle (1890) 135 U.S. 1; Wyoming v. Livingston (10th Cir. 2006) 443 F.3d 1211, 1222.

As stated by the United States Supreme Court, "the States possess primary authority for defining and enforcing the criminal law." Engle v. Isaac (1982) 456 U.S. 107, 128; see also U.S. v. Lopez (1995) 514 U.S. 549, 561 fn. 3.

The Court has observed that "the Constitution requires a distinction between what is truly national and what is truly local," and "[in] recognizing this fact we preserve one of the few principles that has been consistent since the [Commerce] Clause was adopted. The regulation and punishment of intrastate violence that is not directed at the instrumentalities, channels, or goods involved in interstate commerce has always been the province of the States."

    U.S. v. Morrison (2000) 529 U.S. 598, 599, 617-618; see also Cohens v. I Virginia (1821) 6 Wheat. 264, 426, 428, 5 L.Ed. 257 (Marshall, C.J.) stating that Congress "has no general right
to punish murder committed within any of the States," and that it is "clear ... that congress cannot punish felonies generally").

Where potential criminal conduct occurs while a federal agent or officer is carrying out federal duties, joint-investigations and information sharing agreements continue to be best practices if feasible for investigating such instances. However, in light of the federal government's recent actions, it is important to recognize that the interests of the state are not subordinate to federal interests when it comes to regulating local crime. State and local law enforcement agencies maintain independent authority to investigate all potential violations of California state law even in instances where federal authorities may decline to cooperate.
