Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, March 17, 2026

Texas Democrat James Talarico: "What do we think Americans care more about -- culture wars or actual wars. What do you think care about -- pronouns or prices? This is what the people in power always do, they divide us by party, by race, by gender, by religion, by culture, so we don't notice that they are picking our pockets, that they're closing our schools, gutting our health care, raising taxes on all of us while they cut taxes for themselves. It's literally the oldest strategy in the world."

3 min vid

They might have scrolled a Definition for Rwingers - "Pronouns are words like, "she, they, it"... but otherwise pretty spot on.

Talarico's quite gifted in articulating the causes of economic struggles for average Americans. Especially when many are working multiple jobs but watch their dollars getting stretched thinner and thinner in real time.

BTW, thanks for the vid on the Trident. Hope it makes the kind of difference the vid producer suggests it might.

Talarico is a good person.

He's got good ideals and values.

He speak the truth and in a manner which respects the people he's talking with.

I hope he does well.

If he can win Texas, he will one day make a good president.

Texas Democrat James Talarico, who argues that politicians are distracting voters with culture wars like pronouns and identity politics instead of addressing real economic issues like rising prices and the cost of living.

Same thing the Oneironaut has been saying for 5 years.

If he can win Texas, he will one day make a good president.

You understand he's ran up the score in targeting White and Latino voters and the data shows that's how he won.

Talirico is a White elitist, surprised you don't know that Clownshack. I'd be leery of these White Elite Democrats also White Media types.

They ------ over a legitimate Black woman candidate, same way they ------ over Bernie in 2015/16.

I see that 1Nut is still afraid of, "white devils".

Even ones that promote equality and justice for all, and who attracts all colors to his campaign.

OneTrumper prefers his white politicians to be covered in orange makeup and raping children.

Trump purged the government of black people, OneTrumper tries to blame Crockett's loss on Talarico ... because Texas Republicans shut the polling stations down early.

Figure that out.

- Figure that out.

His only purpose here seems to be to troll "Lumpers" with his wit and wisdom.

Which should really only require about 30 seconds a day to deplete.

This guy could conceivably beat Paxton because he's a criminal. No way he beats Cornyn.

The left, Dems and MSM (as always, for give the redundancy) thought Wendy Davis was going to be their Texas savior. Then it was Beto. Now, it's this faux Christian clown with all sorts of tweets and video sermons being uncovered that with some targeted ads will likely sink him with Texas voters because he's a kook.

It's quite interesting, really.

The effort of the MAGA folk here to try to denigrate TX Rep Talarico.

He must be causing a significant level of angst in the MAGA circles.

Why might that be?

The part of your comment that I agree with a lot is this... the people he's talking with.

As I have noted about Mayor Mamdani in NYC, TX Rep Talarico talks with people, not at them.

And that seems to have MAGA experiencing a meltdown ...

I just saw him say this:

" "I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign... We are only buying vegan products from our local vegan businesses."

Texas is the brisket capital of the world. The state has ranchers everywhere. I'm sure this will go over like a fart in church.

I do not disagree.

But allow me to ask, how have Democrats been doing in Red districts in the recent special elections?

Found this ...

Democrats are trouncing Republicans in state elections since Trump took office
www.politico.com

... Democrats have flipped 28 Republican-held seats in state legislatures across the country over the past 14 months, a sign that the GOP is indeed at risk of losing control of the House, and maybe even the Senate, in the midterms.

Democratic wins have come even in deep red states, including Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi, and often by margins that make Republican leaders uneasy.

"I'm ringing the alarm bell," said Brendan Steinhauser, a Texas GOP consultant who has run campaigns for Republicans in the state, including Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Dan Crenshaw. ...

While I have no current opinions about the results of November 2026, I do note that the GOP seems to be quite concerned.

Ultimately, it is up to the great people of Texas to decide.

He flipped the TX house district he ran in in 2018. TX gerrymandered that district away, so he ran in a redrawn district.

He's a really decent human being. Out of college:

In 2011, Talarico joined Teach For America, teaching sixth-grade English language arts at Rhodes Middle School on the west side of San Antonio. After two years of teaching, he became the Central Texas executive director for Reasoning Mind, a Texas nonprofit focusing on bringing technology to low-income classrooms.
