This strain, Andes virus, was discovered in 1995 and is still largely a roden/rat virus, which is the reservoir species.

This particular strain, unfortunately, is one that is most adept at passing to humans and, with close contact, from human to human.

My understanding is that it isn't anywhere near as infectious as say SARS-CoV-2, but I'm not able to find an R0 value as I don't think there have been large enough outbreaks for that to be determined.

So in other words, prepare for world shutdown, mandatory masks, mandatory shots that don't prevent spreading or curing, cancel culture, denial of services for the deniers... the usual.

Or, you know, increased awareness among medical providers and ED staff, testing of suspected cases and PSAs ensuring people know the symptoms and how to respond to them.

The kind of rational, everyday stuff that goes on behind the scenes without you ever knowing.

When I worked in the dessert SW it was mostly the Native Americans getting sick and dying from this virus. Come to find out, they're more susceptible because rather than going pick their own pine nuts, they were robbing rodent nests with cashes already gathered.

#11 yes, you're right. Someone seeded a cruise with Hanta virus weeks before the Disney story broke in national news that anyone could read to distract from the story that was publicized.
