Democrats are hopeful about their chances of winning a Senate seat in Texas following Trump's decision to back Ken Paxton, seen as a weaker general election candidate than John Cornyn. Democrats think they have a uniquely strong nominee in James Talarico and Paxton would be a vulnerable opponent.

Wonder what John Cornyn is thinking, all that humiliation and boot licking just to become a unperson in MAGAlandia.

According to Politico:

The timing of the last-minute endorsement comes as a surprise, months after he [Trump] was initially expected to jump in: Just on Monday, Cornyn said "the ship has finally sailed" regarding Trump's stamp of approval.

"Ken is a true MAGA Warrior who has ALWAYS delivered for Texas, and will continue to do so in the United States Senate," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "John Cornyn is a good man, and I worked well with him, but he was not supportive of me when times were tough."

Cornyn and his supporters fear that nominating scandal-plagued Paxton, a figure of the far right with significant personal baggage, would put control of the Senate at risk and cost the party hundreds of millions of dollars to defend the seat this fall.

The race is close all the way around now... perhaps Trump's endorsement will be the Kiss of Death.

Paxton is a hardcore MAGAman, with a mountain of ethical, legal and personal problems trailing in his tumultuous wake. You can see why MAGAJebus would glom onto him - and then there's this tidbit: Trump's DOJ dropped an ongoing criminal investigation into Paxton's activities. Whataguy, huh?

Not quite Tne Federalist Papers, is it? But that's how things are in MAGASwampLandia.

This is another instance of Trump doing something transgressive so that he can stick out his tongue at society to prove no one can stop him from doing anything.

Primaries that allow only members of their parties to vote in them tend to attract the more radical voters of the party and tend to endorse the more radical candidate that the party has proffered.

Here in CT, it is often discussed opening primaries to everyone, with each voter allowed to vote in only one primary. In that manner, unaffiliated voters (as independent voters are called here) can also take part in the primaries.
