But, this is a video that has brought tears to my eyes, and an admiration and respect to that 16-year-old life guard.

Amazing. Our son is a first responder/paramedic who also trained/qualified as a rescue diver. The first thing those guys do is assess the situation, and the primary concern is whether they reasonably believe they can perform the rescue and not get killed while going into or through the event. The emphasis is on realizing one person in distress is bad enough without tossing another unnecessarily into the mix and losing two. Perhaps cold, but there it is. I've no idea this 16-year- old's training, but he knew what to do and he was loaded with guts.

If that was my kid, the last thing I'd do is admit that online. WTF was anyone doing near that surf unless they were experienced enough to deal with it?
