For younger generations, Memorial Day is the official start of summer, kicked off with a large parade and a celebration of the men and women who gave their lives so we could have the freedom to enjoy our own.

... As children get older, they begin to focus less on the three-day weekend and grilling burgers at a picnic and notice that their older relatives and neighbors aren't just headed to the pool or making lemonade -- they spend the weekend visiting cemeteries.

Every year, Americans come together on the last Monday in May to remember our fallen service members. But the timing, traditions and even what we call the holiday are all relatively new.

Memorial Day, as we know, is far from a macabre or morbid tradition. For more than a century, the ritual of visiting cemeteries, memorials and gravesites was the real start of summer. It was an annual act of remembrance, clearing away the dirt and grime from those hallowed markers.

It's a time to decorate those personal memorials.

Until 1971, it was known as "Decoration Day." ...

How 'Decoration Day' Became Memorial Day

What a beautiful, touchin' sentiment by the GOP nominee on this special day rememberin' our troops.

Happy Memorial Day to All, including the Human Scum that is working so hard to destroy our Once Great Country, & to the Radical Left, Trump Hating Federal Judge in New York that presided over, get this, TWO separate trials, that awarded a woman, who I never met before (a quick handshake at a celebrity event, 25 years ago, doesn't count!), 91 MILLION DOLLARS for "DEFAMATION." She didn't know when the so-called event took place - sometime in the 1990's - never filed a police report, didn't have to produce the "dress" that she threatened me with (it showed negative!), & sung my praises in the first half of her CNN Interview with Alison Cooper, but changed her tune in the second half - Gee, I wonder why (UNDER APPEAL!)? The Rape charge was dropped by a jury! Or Arthur Engoron, the N.Y. State Wacko Judge who fined me almost 500 Million Dollars (UNDER APPEAL) for DOING NOTHING WRONG, used a Statute that has never been used before, gave me NO JURY, Mar-a-Lago at $18,000,000 - Now for Merchan!

Obviously Memorial Day is all about him, just like everything else. How his Cultists are so blind is... astounding, really.

"In 1968, the U.S. government passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which put major holidays on specific Mondays to give federal employees three-day weekends.

Memorial Day was one of these holidays, along with Washington's Birthday, Labor Day and Columbus Day. The act also codified the name "Memorial Day" into law.

It all went into effect in 1971 and, by then, there were no more Civil War veterans -- but there were millions of vets from later wars."

Details on the lack of response to the unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty indicate traitors in our government, specifically Congress.

The quotes and interviews with servicemen is consistent and worth review.

What a beautiful, touching sentiment by the GOP nominee on this special day remembering the sacrificing of our troops, while he became wealthy.

Please remember to display the flag of the United States at half mast up until 12 noon. No upside down display of the United States flag.

Hardly, I was 11. The oldest boomer would have been 25. Not setting national policy.

How his Cultists are so blind is... astounding, really.

He has convinced them that he is suffering for their sins, not his. If not for him, they would be the ones on trial.

Today is the day to honor the fallen. Not bitch about "boomers".

Say what disparaging things you will about boomers.

America is still here.

What have you done for your country lately besides bitch about the way "boomers" left it?

This message brought to you by a boomer who served his country honorably.

Semper Fi.

Those who wish to complain about boomers trashing everything should remember the boomers' parents decimated parts of Europe and Asia with catastrophic wars driven by economic conditions in a racist climate with ethnic cleansing and culminating in the use of bombs powerful enough to vaporize half a million perfectly civilized people in seconds...

Yeah boohoo babies... try fixing that mess without Google and a cellphone.

you're lucky we reined in your Pawpaw and Memaw aka "The Greatest Generation" who were not afraid to spank nay... beat our @$$e$ in public... with gawd and everyone watching... while preparing us to survive another nuking somewhere on the planet.

Happ-eh fekking memorial day!

Stan Ridgway - Camouflage (1986)

Lyrics excerpt...

I was a PFC on a search patrol huntin' Charlie down
It was in the jungle wars of '65
My weapon jammed and I got stuck way out and all alone
And I could hear the enemy movin' in close outside

Just then I heard a twig snap and I grabbed my empty gun
And I dug in scared while I counted down my fate

And then a big marine, a giant with a pair of friendly eyes
Appeared there at my shoulder and said wait

When he came in close beside me he said
"Don't worry, son, I'm here
If Charlie wants to tangle now he'll have two to dodge."
I said, "Well thanks a lot."
I told him my name and asked him his
And he said, "The boys just call me Camouflage."

Well I was gonna ask him where he came from
When we heard the bullets fly
Coming through the brush
And all around our ears
It was then I saw this big Marine light a fire in his eye
And it was strange but suddenly I forgot my fears

[Verse 3]
Well, we fought all night side by side we took our battle stance
And I wondered how the bullets missed this man
Cause they seemed to go right through him
As if he wasn't there
And in the mornin' we both took a chance and ran

[Verse 4]
And it was near the river bank when the ambush came on top of us
And I'd thought it was the end and we were had
Then a bullet with my name on it came buzzin' through a bush
And that big marine he just swatted it with his hand
Just like it was a fly

[Verse 5]
And I knew there was something weird about him
Cause when I turned around he was pullin' a big palm tree
Right up out of the ground
And swattin' those Charlies with it from here to Kingdom Come

When he led me out of danger
I saw my camp and waved goodbye
He just winked at me from the jungle and then was gone
And when I got back to my HQ, I told 'em about my night
And the battle I'd spent with a big marine named Camouflage

[Verse 6]
When I said his name a soldier gulped
And a medic took my arm
And led me to a green tent on the right

He said, "You may be tellin' the truth boy
But this here is Camouflage
And he's been right here since he passed away last night."
In fact, he's been here all week long

But before he went he said, "Semper Fi,"
And said his only wish
Was to save a young marine caught in a barrage

So here, take his dog tag, son
I know he'd want you to have it now."
And we both said a prayer for a big marine named Camouflage
