Putin, the stable genius, brilliant tactician and grand strategist strikes again. Thickness of noggin and heaviness of whip hand remain enduring manifestations of Russian society. And closed feedback loops. Never underestimate the destructive power of closed feedback loops.

I hope Putin starts WWIII between the hours of 9am-4pm EST.

It's pathetic. Somehow the Russians and their stooges and useful idiots have latched onto a strange idea. It is this: Russia's unprovoked invasion of a neighboring country with the intention of annihilating its leadership and destroying that nation should in no way be a cause for alarm for other neighboring states. know, I know, I know. So idiotic as to be almost beyond belief. It's those closed feedback loops again, coupled with cultural infantilism.

NATO is also a closed feedback loop. Sleepwalking into World War.

Us and Them. Russia Was wrong to attack. NATO isn't making anyone safer.

Nuclear missiles on hair trigger pointed at people we're already Beefing with doesn't make anyone safer.

It's just a new "Warm" War. Proxies fighting instead of the principal belligerents.

Armed to the teeth with imported weapons.

I see no Good Outcome.

US cruise missiles to return to Germany, angering Moscow

This is another way of Trump proofing NATO. Furthermore, these weapons are likely to be put under a NATO command and not a US command which will make it less likely that Trump can order these weapons removed from Germany.

I liked the part at the Meeting yesterday where NATO gave Vlad the Nation Recruiter of the Year Award.

I agree but Putin has decided for reasons of mental illness, I guess, to start WW3. If we thought it was going to "end" in Ukraine, Russia's hiring of covert saboteurs in western Europe has neatly put an end to any hopes that this would just be a regional conflict.

Putin thought that the USA and western Europe would meekly roll over, as what happened with Obama et al with the Crimean peninsula.

Enough is enough. NATO will get sucked into this, which is ok by me, Vlad has to be killed or the Russian economy decimated by war. Those are the only ways he will be stopped.

Now you remember us bombing Yugoslavia and creating Kosovo so we could build Camp Bondsteel.

Camp Bondsteel was constructed by the 94th Engineer Construction Battalion, augmented by A Company, 864th Engineer Battalion and the 568th Combat Support Engineer Company, together with the Kellogg, Brown and Root Corporation (KBR). KBR was also the prime contractor for the operation of the camp.

Camp Bondsteel is not open to inspections by the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), which has the right to visit all "places of detention" of the member states of the Council of Europe. Negotiations with KFOR were underway but were suspended because of Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence, which was not recognised by the Council of Europe. The United States Army had been criticised for using the base as a detention facility for suspected terrorists.[

Whaaa? You finally admit that Russia attacked?

Well good on you. At least you got half of that right then you just have to go and say stupid things to what make you feel better?

NATO is holding the line and preventing any further Russian aggression which protects us all. NATO has new members not because they fear American aggression. It's to protect them from further Russian aggression. And now probably because they fear Trump would let Pooty "do whatever the hell he wants" to them.

Welcome to Earth. Have we humans ever been at peace with each other here?

Would you prefer we send in our troops to die over there so will personally feel better ?

Yes it's a war. A war Russia chose and Ukraine did not. And Russia has suffered 300,000 casualties at least and America has lost none. And Pooty Pants has backed himself into a very expensive and costly corner. Best foreign policy deal ever I say!

And no there is no "good " outcome to war even if Ukraine manages to hold them off (in spite of republicans).

It's a bloody war mate.

All the kings horses cannot put it back the way it was. The Ukrainians infrastructure is in shambles and you cannot bring back the dead. And Pooty Pants (like Trumpy) will never change. This war will apparently continue until Pooty Pants dies or is overthrown (or unless Trumpy withdraws our support and hands Pooty Ukraine on a silver platter).

Your constant whining helps no one.

#20 Encouraging Ukraine to fight to the last man is not helping them.

Giving them just enough to not collapse but not enough to win is prolonging an open war that benefits American investors, not Ukrainian civilians. It's damned Dangerous and stupid as well as cynical and depraved.

Sending our own troops is less ChickenHawk than expecting others to die For Our objectives.

Russia invaded in part because Ukraine was preparing their own offensive against the separatists in the Donbass.

This angle gets little discussion but it was a factor.

NATO is clearly not a force for peace and cooperation between Russia and the West. It creates more tension, not less.

The UN is the proper avenue to pursue peace, not NATO.

This war is about America wanting to economically dominate Europe and set the conditions of European Defense, to be lead, of course, by the US.

Europe should deal with their own defense... But the world trembles at the thought of a strong Militant Germany.

Russia is being cornered and contained. This is the source of the conflict.

War is inevitable, Real War,not proxies. If the situation doesn't change at a basic level.

NATO is clearly not a force for peace and cooperation between Russia and the West. It creates more tension, not less.

NATO has never attacked anyone and it's in it's charter to be a defense organization. Its members are committed to protect each member from threats. Not attack and expand its borders. And it's not NATO's job to broker peace with Russia. It's Russia's job to be peaceful and NOT attack sovereign nations on its border just because Pootin is afraid to have free sovereign nations on its border.

Russia now has 5 NATO countries on its border. None have ever attacked or threatened to attack Russians. But they will defend each other from an attack. Sorry this annoys Pootin and prevents him from recreating the Russian Empire. He will never be called Vlad the Great no matter how much he fantasizes about it.

All Pootin has to do is stop threatening free sovereign nations and NATO countries will never be a threat to him. And maybe learn to live in peace with its neighbors? Of course now he owes billions in reparations to Ukraine too. So he does need to resolve that and face the many accusations of war crimes. But of course that will never happen. Figure the odds.

Time to grow up little Poser.

It's a big world for little Poser.

I can see why the Russians might be concerned about the proximity of NATO assets in places like Finland and Norway. Interestingly, neither country was even inNATO until Putin started the alarm bells ringing by invading a neighboring state. It always seems to surprise the Russkies, people taking offense to them sending their orc hordes in to terrorize the neighbors. Such thickos.

#32 | Posted by Doc_Sarvis at 2024-07-12 03:59 PM | Reply

I think Norway has been part of NATO for a long time and it's one of the main reasons why Sweden and Finland didn't feel they had to join. After all they could have almost all the same protection and not have to pay into the system meanwhile they could anytime they want to get freebies from the Soviet union and not risk agitating them in the slightest.

This is similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Even though the US rockets placed in West Berlin were not all that good, Kennedy still refused to remove them until Khrushchev removed Soviet missiles out of Cuba. Now we're putting rockets (granted, non-nuclear) back in Germany? I'm not sure I'm up for a Biden-Putin --- for tat exchange.

#31 NATO bombed Serbia for 78 days. It forced the partition of Serbia and created a new state of Kosovo, by War. Libya was attacked by NATO, the social order collapsed into a failed state. Afghanistan was also attacked by NATO.

Peaceful? Dude, you're delusional.

NATO is an Offensive alliance. They project hard power onto countries minding their own business in defiance of the UN and international law.

Russia is doing what big countries do. Carving out a sphere of influence.

NATO is just American unwillingness to let Europe find it's own way...

Economically and Militarily.

Not every War is our business. Or should be.

If Ukraine had not been emboldened by NATO they would have sued for peace long ago, leaving thousands of people now Dead alive and contributing to the world.

How do those death's make the world better?

Given that Ukraine has been pulverized for American investors and reduced to a neo colony.

NATO is clearly the only way to keep russia from invading a neighbor.

Russia's economy doesn't even equal that of texas.

They're not a big country they're a bunch of losers with oil and nukes. And an online troll army to spread their propaganda.

#37 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2024-07-12 05:50 PM | Reply

If Russia is so weak, why are they still in it to win it?

If Russia is less than Texas why is the combined might of NATO not able to keep up with their arms production?

Why have the Sanctions failed to destroy them economically?

Russia is unique in that they are not dependent on the West.

They are able to maneuver in ways that Western countries can't because they have another system not tied into the Western Order.

They are positioned to be able to resist by geography and sheer landmass.

That's the problem with a kleptocracy.

Russia isn't part of the Western world.

They don't want to be at this point either.

They have gone their own way for a long time now. If nobody wants to attack them why have they been invaded from the West three times in 200 years?

Millions killed in wars of Annihilation. Nuclear cold war for decades.

Russia has never invaded the West.

And at this point they don't deserve to be.

Russia as a state deserves to be annihilated, perhaps then the Russian people can have peace and freedom.

Putin wasn't exactly operating on his own when he went into attack mode.

Although he miscalculated Ukraine's resistance, the seasonal mud, and was completely unaware that Russia's Defense Fund had been systematically looted, he also had some assurances from the GOP that the U.S., under Republican stewardship, would have Russia's back when it came time, using Ukraine as a launch pad, to claim back the former U.S.S.R. nations.

Trump was only a player in the original deal. It was actually the Republican Party (the GOP) who sold out America.

If you've ever heard the cautionary tale about "the best laid plans of men and mice . . . " this was one of those time. Everybody miscalculated. Everybody misjudged.

That is, everybody but the Biden Administration and NATO.

Which put Mr. Putin in the position of, one more time, relying on the GOP's strategic expertise to overcome their failure in 2020.

There's a lot of desperation on both ends.

The irresponsible Biden, Zelensky and globalists have always looked at success in this Ukraine situation as spendimg money to defeat Russia. Real success would have been negotiating to prevent death and destruction and war. It is critical that we have a POTUS with sense. Not another Biden.
