Miss South Carolina Teen 2007, Caitlin Upton, called JD Vance for mocking her awkward pageant performance more than a decade ago: "It's a shame that 17 years later this is still being brought up. There's not too much else to say about it at this point. Regardless of political beliefs, one thing I do know is that social media and online bullying needs to stop."

... The video was widely circulated in 2007 and Upton became the butt of jokes that took a toll on her mental health, telling New York Magazine that she even contemplated suicide.

In response to people resharing the infamous clip this week, Upton posted on X, "It's a shame that 17 years later this is still being brought up. There's not too much else to say about it at this point. Regardless of political beliefs, one thing I do know is that social media and online bullying needs to stop."

Vance was asked about his social media post on CNN Friday morning. He said he didn't know that Upton contemplated suicide because of the harassment she received, but refused to apologize for resurfacing the video. ...

Shortly after posting her response, Uptown apparently deleted her account on X.

She complained about bullying so then the MAGAts bullied her into deleting her Xitter account. MAGAts are giving maggots a bad name.

"It's a shame that 17 years later this is still being brought up," wrote Upton, who in the past has retweeted Donald Trump tweets and anti-lockdown messages.

"There's not too much else to say about it at this point. Regardless of political beliefs, one thing I do know is that social media and online bullying needs to stop."

Vance bemoaned, "Politics has gotten way too lame John, way too boring."

Berman then gave Vance another opportunity to apologize. The candidate doubled down.

"John, I'm not going to apologize for posting a joke," he said, "but I wish the best for Caitlin and I hope she's doing well."

Making fun of a person for an embarrassing moment that resulted in them contemplating suicide is weird. JD Vance should shut up. Maybe go hide in a closet and practice ordering donuts where no one can see him.

Interesting note: Upton was signed by the Trump Model Agency after that beauty pageant.

I wonder why?

@#4 ... JD Vance should shut up. ...

Yup.

... Sen. JD Vance was booed by firefighters at a convention Thursday as he attempted to woo one of the country's biggest unions. ...

When Vance said that he and Trump were "proud to be the most pro-worker and union Republican ticket in history", his comments were met with more boos.

Walz, a union member himself, has said that he and Vice President Kamala Harris will fight to protect the fire fighter's benefits, compensation and safe working conditions. As a governor, Walz said he bolstered resources for fire fighter training and education.

"This is going to impact you," Walz said. "These are things that matter to us. Some of you in here, I know what you're thinking. When Republicans used to talk about freedom, they meant it. Not anymore. They want government to invade every part of our life, from our union halls to schools." ...

fwiw, Gov Walz got a standing ovation from the crowd.

Trump's answers frequently aren't any more coherent than hers was back then. Maybe a bottle blond thing they shared in common.

Case in point:

Fox Sane-washing Trump's Incoherent Word Salad Rants

It wouldn't be a Donald Trump speech without some incoherent rambling or meltdown - but many media outlets have been accused of 'sane-washing' his off-script rants. It's been picked up by journalist Aaron Rupar, who has coined the phrase 'sane-wash' to describe how reporters and pundits try to explain the meaning behind Trump's ramblings.

JD Vance managed to cost Trump a vote in SC? That's just amazingly bad, I mean a SC beauty queen mocked for stupidity who supported Trump will likely not be voting for him now do you have any idea how hard that is to pull off?

If the politics thing doesn't work out for Vance he could try his hand in casinos, I've heard those are impossible to ruin.

From www.theguardian.com at The Guardian:

In 2015, Upton told New York magazine that some college baseball players later taunted her cruelly at a party, and someone even mailed her a note telling her to "go die for [her] stupidity". She described how the harassment plunged her into a depression and prompted her to have suicidal thoughts.

But she said support from her family as well as other loved ones helped her to overcome the ordeal as she pursued a real estate career and became a mother of two children.

Upton in the interim also reportedly posted online about her support for Donald Trump's presidency, including his lies that voting fraudsters unduly orchestrated his defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

She had mostly faded from the public consciousness when Trump's running mate thrust her back into it Thursday, shortly before CNN aired Harris's first news network interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. Vance's X account republished a video clip of Upton's infamous 2007 remarks along with the caption, "BREAKING: I have gotten ahold of the full Kamala Harris CNN interview."

Upton on Friday made clear that she did not appreciate Vance's post.

JD is a douche, but replaying someone's own words is hardly bullying. No one forced her to enter beauty pageants and say stupid things. Any performer or entertainer takes that risk, especially in the never forgetting modern world of the internet.

".. but replaying someone's own words is hardly bullying."

It was 17yrs ago and this woman is not involved in politics and has nothing to do with any of this. And what's worse is, at some point, she has even been a trump supporter.

Bullying to prove a nonexistent point.
