Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, January 16, 2025

As Donald Trump prepares to once again assume the office of the presidency, a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll finds that, despite his claims of an "unprecedented and powerful mandate," Trump may have to be careful about how far he decides to go with what he wants to do.

More people hold an unfavorable than favorable view of him, most are against pardoning those convicted of attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and they're split on whether to mass deport immigrants who are in the U.S. without legal status.

"Perhaps most importantly, Americans have high expectations that their personal financial situations will improve under Trump, but more think tariffs will hurt rather than help the economy.

Trump has promised bold action, but, as the NPR poll shows, the politics may be tricky. Presidents often become vulnerable because of overreach. They tend to believe " falsely " that because they were elected, they have a mandate for everything on their agenda.

Clearly, that's not the case.

"The opening round of the second term is not going well with the public," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, which conducted the survey of 1,387 adults. "Americans are not convinced of Trump's agenda pillars, including pardons and tariffs. Mass deportations are only getting mixed reviews."

The only "mandate" Trump has is from the Village People getting it up for his inaugural.

"Americans have high expectations that their personal financial situations will improve under Trump"

Some of us can convince themselves of anything.

Donald-being the weakest of weak men-may well climb down from these positions, which he will claim a stroke of genius.

Donald-being a mofo full of the sickest sort of pride-may well cling to these positions like the cold hand of death, which he will also claim a stroke of genius.

Some, likely most, MAGA are about to go through some things. A minor question is whether any here will admit that.

HAHAHA. Hell no.

Don't forget he is also Putin's and now Elmo's punchboard.

Now he's talking about 'slow-tracking' tariffs.... hahaha!

At the end of his term, if it ever ends... it will found that in this Election alone he lied about his policies ad infinitum, and the only ones that ever actually took affect did so by accident.

Trump cares nothing about polls that say other than he is fantastic, chiseled from granite, sexually powerful, probably the greatest golfer ever, a fashion plate and idol of hundreds of millions of Americans. Upon his ascension to the throne, King Dotard's efforts will focus on the consolidation of power, collecting cash tribute wherever he can get it, gaining the fealty of all elected officials nationwide and cancelling all future elections. All else is white noise to him...

" he will also claim a stroke of genius."

I believe he could have a stroke any moment now but it won't be "of genius."

I think by 'Delicate Condition', they may mean Trump bent over his Oligarch Overlord Musk's knee.

Where are all the Bannonites screaming for Trump to end his planned wedding to King Leon?

Are they afraid to speak out against the Fascists?

Reading these comments from the usual crybaby suspects is like listening to the progress channel on Sirius. A bunch of whining losers who say Trump didn't actually win after he won the WH, got GOP majorities in the house and senate and the SC. Not much more to say than suck it losers.

I'm sure FishBussy feels like what he wrote was profound.

But it just reads like sour grapes from someone who hates himself.

Why am I not surprised by this ignorant statement.

approximately 245 million Americans were eligible to vote in the 2024 general election.

153,322,830 people voted.

Trump 77,303,573 votes (49.9%)

Harris 75,019,257 votes (48.4%)

Nearly 90 million people chose not to vote.

LOL fools.

Trump doesn't have to give a ---- what anyone thinks of him now. He never has to face the voters again, congress is his cult, and the supreme court says he's above the law. You are going to witness corruption, crime, and harm to the public on a scale not seen before in america.

You're so stupid you're going to be celebrating the arrival of fascism because you think it makes superior people sad.

He didn't win the majority in the popular vote. It's not going to go smooth for him.

That and winning didn't magically dissolve his dementia. He's still an old man with Vancypants chomping at the bit.

Re: #26....My hunch is old-fashioned Prescedence. My fervent hope is the Joint Chiefs of Staff and AG will refuse to follow any obviously unlawful order--especially ones violating Posse Comitatus statutes. Trump has amply demonstrated he considers himself above The Law, proffering a mind-set that any ill-advised act he may initiate will be completely free from any meaningful consequences. Thanks, Mr. Garland. Hopefully, who/what will stand in his way is the real character of the American People. I can't help but see the next four years as a long-overdue stress test of our laws and institutionally inequitous way of life in this country.

Biden is out of a job in forty-eight hours.

Donald's cognitive impairments and old age now receive center stage.

I agree with what others have said: hit Donald over the head with every failure or promise and every failure, period. There will be many,

His nervous breakdown and/or early grave are good for the country and for the world.
