Former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison Wednesday for accepting bribes of cash and gold bars and serving as an agent of Egypt as he sold influence to businessmen eager to exploit his political power. U.S. District Judge Sidney H. Stein in Manhattan announced the sentence after Menendez tearfully addressed the judge, saying he'd lost everything he cared about, except for his wife. "You were successful, powerful, you stood at the apex of our political system," the judge said. "Somewhere along the way, and I don't know when it was, you lost your way and working for the public good became working for your good."

Were he a Republican Sen tried this year for these charges... he'd be made the Chair of the Finance Committee.

Dems don't stand beside their criminals nearly as willingly as Republicans do.

'
And BTW... ya'll Trumpers who think that the rwing populist base is going to get what they want from Republicans under (literally) Trump, while the Tech Bro and other Corporations and Billionaires play on the sidelines, are in for a shock.

You were the Voters, and the Oligarchs and their Corporations are the Beneficiaries.

And it was obviously always going to be that way. SO much for the Trumpium hope.

Yup. And as Trumpy has said, the hoi polloi will never need to vote again.

Because now that maga has gained the power that they have craved for so long they don't need no stinkin voters. They got the oligarchs!

Selling influence?

What? Did he think he was a Republican?

Lock that Corrupt Punk up.

11 years is heavy. Especially at his age.

He could easily Die in prison.

Five would have been plenty. But the jury has spoken. Who am I to question it?

Too bad Republicans embrace Criminality. It gives them an unfair advantage.

Holding corrupt officials to account is important though.

The bigger fish always get away,..think...TRUMP.

"The Public Good"? Ah, yes. A quint old concept from back when, like, 'of by and for the People'.

Repealing the Laws surrounding Corporate Personhood that have literally made money speech and fighting making bribes legal again with DJT's new Order needs to be a top Dem priority.

Even honest people in Congress have to play by the money rules that the Oligarchs have had written for them to play by. There needs to be a re-write.

Yeah Right, like that's going to happen. OLIGARCHY is a feature not a Bug in our political system.

The SCOTUS just brought it out of the closet with Citizens United.

Bribing Menendez wouldn't have even been a crime if the Miscreants had been Americans.

Just a good investment in getting policies they wanted.

Our system is ripe for Revolution.
