Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Despite a fresh rant by Democratic strategist James Carville that the Trump administration will collapse in the next month, a new poll by Harvard CAPS/Harris released Feb. 24 is nothing short of devastating for the Democrats. Not only that, but the survey shows widespread support for Trump's DOGE efforts, which have been the subject of so much partisan opposition. But does DOGE really cut along party lines? Let's take a look at the poll and find out.

DOGE Is Very Popular With Americans, New Poll Finds

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if a survey showed 50% of Americans support taking a kick in the face, so long as they thought that would make Trump happy.

I see what you're saying, but the problem is you, like JPW, like to call the majority of the country stupid. For now, I'm on the side that wants the spending reduced in order to bring some resemblance of integrity back. If Trump can't do that, I'll admit I was wrong.

LauraMohr does that lot, attacking the messenger.

Instead of evaluating the message (i.e., here, that the majority of the US supports Doge, per the Harvard/Harris poll).

To be fair, I don't think DOGE has done anything.

Sure there's been lots of announcement, but I haven't seen proof of the effectiveness of DOGE.

Right now its all smoke and mirrors.

Many Americans are ignorant. Many Americans are hateful. That's why they support DOGE

I wonder what the result would be if Musk/Trump came out and said all necessary DOGE savings would be used to fund an excellent program of prenatal-to-grave health care.

If only someone could convince Trump he'd be wildly popular with a new demographic.

And that it has an outside chance of moving him off the bottom of the presidential ratings.

So. Yes. You are stupid.

"I'm on the side that wants the spending reduced in order to bring some resemblance of integrity back."

What a riot. Your "side" requires two GIANT lies for membership, regarding J6 and the 2020 election. Some integrity.

But if you actually feel that way, then you've got to be foursquare against the firing of 94% of USAID workers, which had NOTHING to do with integrity, and everything to do with vengeance..

Musk lied and said USAID was paying out exorbitant fees for stars to be photographed with Zelensky. USAID called him out for lying.

Would you like your integrity back?

No, you won't. You'll regurgitate the excuses you're told to regurgitate. How do I know? Because you're all about DOGE even though they're the actual frauds.

Fact is a majority want to see the size of the country scaled back and a significant reduction in waste. I have no idea if this administration can even come close to pulling it off.

"Fact is a majority want to see the size of the country scaled back and a significant reduction in waste."

Is there any polling which substantiates this claim?
You said "size of the country scaled back" -- Like you already know Trump is planning to sell Alaska back to Russia.
You'd support that. To pay for tax cuts!

Wasteful spending is a bit of an issue of opinion. What i deem wasteful is surely not what you deem wasteful spending Government spending is up 60% from 2019. The government utilizes baseline budgeting. So, after we pulled out of the pandemic the new baseline included all of that stimulus money when that should have been just a temporary bulge in spending due to a once in a century pandemic. I view that as extremely wasteful. I'm guessing you don't and I'm curious to see if you condescend to even address it.

"What i deem wasteful is ... Government spending is up 60% from 2019."

What is all the new spending since 2019? The answer is surprising, as shown in the two tables below. The main drivers of the recent increases have not been the largest three programs"Social Security, Medicare, and defense"but rather rapid growth in numerous other programs.

Table 1 shows CBO spending for 2019 and baseline estimates for 2023. The largest increases have been nondefense discretionary, Medicaid, veterans, food stamps, health tax credits, welfare, school food programs, and interest. All data in both tables are fiscal year outlays.

---- Veterans
---- Food Stasmps

---- paying interest on the debts you owe.

BullBringer and the rest of the deplorable Trumping MAGAts have no clue what the hell they're talking about. They're simply repeating what they've heard on right wing media.

#27 I actually am fine with spending cuts. It needs to happen. Obama passed off a budget and economy with a very manageable deficit that could have probably been turned back into a surplus with proper stewardship.

Trump juiced it (usual GOP shtick of tax cuts with increased spending) and Biden has done nothing or made it worse.

But this DOGE bulls^%+ is not how it should be done. Congress should do its f*+^ing job and Musk should f^ off and when he's off f^ off again.

Umm...25% of it seems to be literally just Social Security and Medicare. Some of the rest may have large increases percentagewise but no where near dollarwise.

And the interest increase on the debt itself is about 14% of the spending increase.

40% of jobs "created" under Biden were government jobs.

Did the government really need to grow that much??

All the items of Snoofys list increased because of inflation.
