Robert Redford, the acclaimed actor, director, and environmental activist, died on Tuesday at age 89 at his home in Utah following a brief illness, as confirmed by his publicist Cindi Berger. His career spanned iconic roles in films like "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "The Sting," and "All the President's Men," an Oscar win for directing "Ordinary People," and the founding of the Sundance Institute in 1981, which became a cornerstone for independent cinema.

What movie should I watch to get a sense of who Robert Redford was as an actor?

The other question have, is when these famous actors die, why isn't there a station that would play just their movies for a day? Or period?

Pretty sure that exact thing is happening somewhere in America.

But the thing is it is not political leaders or the President of the United States saying it. So absolutely nothing would or will happen.
Just another maga fart in the wind.

Robert Redford was not a polarizing or controversial figure.

And.

Because the obviously world is NOT a better place without Robert Redford.

Man in the Wilderness is my personal favorite of his movies.

About fur trappers in the 1820's old Northwest.

A lot of people don't realize this but Robert Redford could have been an MLB hall of famer had he not been shot. He had that much talent. Some people even called him a natural at the game. I saw a documentary that explains it all.

I haven't checked lately but if anyone is gonna do that it would be them.

They have the extensive film library to be able to.

I would bet they are.

That may be why I confused them.

Redford moved well beyond those early leading man roles and actually got involved in doing things, trying to accomplish something, and not just in film. Back in the early 1980s it was my great pleasure to share dinner (we ate from separate plates) with Tony Hillerman, author of the Joe Leaphorn novels. I asked him why he moved from Leaphorn to the then-new Jim Chee character. Well, Tony answered, the name Chee was more Navajo than Leaphorn. Then, too, he laughed, Robert Redford had bought the rights to Leaphorn. It took ages for Redford to really get that one going, but after a false start some years back it has clicked. And as for his films, so many really good ones. I never tire watching him as the intel operative tying up some loose ends coming up to retirement in Spy Game. And from their eras, hard to beat him in Butch Cassidy ... and The Sting as well as All the President's Men. See, so many. May it be finished in Beauty.
