I bet Mr Comey wishes he had never opened his stupid mouth about that Clinton "investigation" back in 2016 right about now.

This here is some real Vengeance Lawfare... not the kind of stuff where Orange Adolf got off on crimes that if anyone else committed, like, say, lying on bank loan applications and other business fraud, or trying to overthrow an Election, according to his own hand-picked DOJ.

No, this is real Lawfare, which is a strategic use of legal systems to achieve political objectives.

"According to Justice Department guidelines, prosecutors are generally barred from bringing charges unless they can prove a defendant will "more likely than not be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by an unbiased trier of fact and that the conviction will be upheld on appeal."

Despite their recommendations, Halligan -- who has never prosecuted a criminal case in her career as an insurance lawyer -- plans to present evidence to a grand jury before the statute of limitations for the alleged offense expires next week, the sources said.

Comey's attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Halligan's apparent plan to seek charges against Comey follows a clear directive from Trump, who over the weekend directly called for prosecutions against Comey, Sen. Adam Schiff and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

"Nothing is being done. What about Comey, Adam Shifty' Schiff, and Leticia???" Trump wrote in a social media post on Saturday evening, directly addressing Attorney General Pam Bondi. "We can't delay any longer, it's killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!"

And "insurance lawyer"... this reminds me of when Trump's DOJ threatened quit en masse when he wanted them to sign The Letter to states telling them they could change the Election results.

He had found some other stooge lawyer to put in charge of the DOJ, but the whole team threatened to quit if he did.

Trumpers must be SO proud!

@#3 ... No, this is real Lawfare, which is a strategic use of legal systems to achieve political objectives ...

Oh, I disagree.

This is a transactional use of Lawfare.

Pres Trump has not yet indicated to me that he has a clue about long-term strategic planning.

Like most else regarding Pres Trump, it looks to be short-term transactional, not long-tern strategic.

Actually, I think they mmay be proud.

Pres Trump has been planting his obsequious adulators in positions that benefit him.

To wit: AG Bondi.

You'd think Trump would be more grateful to Comey for effectively helping him in 2016, even if it was unintentional. But he's still butthurt because he asked Comey to do something in 2017, and he responded "Comey don't play that!"

I have a feeling that this is going to end up like a lot of other things that have been laughed or scorned out of court, even by Trump appointees. But hey, it's only taxpayer money going down the drain.

"Regarding James Comey's expected criminal charges, ABC news has reporting that federal prosecutors in the eastern district of Virginia presented the newly minted US attorney, Lindsey Halligan, with a memo earlier this week that detailed why not to file criminal charges against the former FBI director.

ABC cites sources familiar with the memo, who also noted that justice department lawyers would be unable to secure a conviction of Comey by proving the claims "beyond a reasonable doubt", and they couldn't reach a significantly lower standard to secure an indictment.

A reminder, Donald Trump fired Halligan's predecessor, Erik Siebert, after he said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Comey, and Letitia James, the New York attorney general and longtime Trump adversary." www.theguardian.com

Don't have to convict him. The process is the punishment.

The only ones being punished here are the taxpayers. This is why I loathe phony conservatives far more than phony liberals.

If it weren't for Trump's first term, you may have been able to make a point with your #15.

Democrats saw to it that nothing would happen. 2.5 impeachments and Muller report just for starters.

Trumpy is a bully who got his Feeling hurt.

As long as Trumpy believes (enabled by the SCOTUS) that he is above the law then no one is safe from Trumpy's revenge and retribution Tour. Also known as Mr Toads Wild Ride ver 2.0.

Trumpy is Seeking to indict Comey. He Wants His DOJ to charge Comey with something. Anything. It doesn't matter whether he is guilty or convicted. This is how he operates. As a Mob Boss in charge of the DOJ.

Remember his "perfect call"?

It was part of a protracted effort by the President, his personal attorney, and administration officials to use the power and prestige of the United States government to get Ukraine to pursue investigations for Trump's personal and political advantage.

Trumpy's DOJ lawyers are in a pickle. They HAVE to get something to stick or they are fired too. Tough gig.

I'll wait to see the grand jury indictments of Comey. Which are highly unlikely.

Meanwhile History will ALWAYS reflect that Donald Trump was successfully charged with a total of 88 felony counts across four separate criminal cases following grand jury indictments.

Comey should be in prison for eluding that someone(s) should off a sitting president.
