It is easy to forget that Argentina was once one of the wealthiest countries in the world. In 1913, the average Argentinian had about 80 percent of the income of the average American. It took several generations of socialist politicians to destroy Argentina's wealth. Today. the average Argentinian has about 30 percent of the income of the average American. This is a lesson followers of Zohran Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders should consider. If the American big government socialists do for the United States what Juan Peron and the Argentinian socialists did for their country, every American will rapidly become poorer.

It's not surprising that you left out all the brutalism and financial disaster of Argentina's fascist years.

That's much, much too close to Donald and MAGA.

Tell me you know NOTHING about Argentinian history without telling me you know NOTHING about Argentinian history.

If Argentina proves anything, it's that we CANNOT allow Republicans to lead the country.

We get:
1. Loss of an independent central bank
2. Massive deficits
3. Loss in trade and currency credibility

Republicans are turning us into Argentina.

@#1 ... It's Trumpism that has made Zohran Mamdani possible. ...

In some (many?) respects, I agree.

One aspect of the NYC Mayor that is known locally, but does not seem to be known nationally, is that the NYC Mayor needs the approval of the NY Legislature for many of the things he has been proposing.

For example, free bus rides? Well, the MTA in NYC is a state-level entity.

About the MTA
www.mta.info

... The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is North America's largest transportation network, serving a population of 15.3 million people across a 5,000-square-mile travel area surrounding New York City, Long Island, southeastern New York State, and Connecticut. The MTA network comprises the nation's largest bus fleet and more subway and commuter rail cars than all other U.S. transit systems combined. ...

Who we are

... The MTA is governed by a 23-member Board. Voting members are nominated by the governor, New York City's mayor, and the county executives of the counties serving the MTA's service area. ...

@14 ... the county executives of the counties serving the MTA's service area. ...

So, how likely might the county executives in the largely Republican suburban areas served by the MTA look upon Mr Mamdani's free bus ride efforts for NYC?

imo, Mr Mamdani has a hill to climb ...

"If the American big government socialists do for the United States what Juan Peron and the Argentinian socialists did for their country, every American will rapidly become poorer."

"Juan Pern and Peronism (1946"1955)
Juan Pern was elected president in 1946, establishing a unique populist and authoritarian system known as Peronism.
Justicialism: Pern's political ideology, Justicialismo, blended elements of socialism and fascism but was distinct from both. His government instituted significant social reforms and nationalized industries, but it also controlled labor unions, restricted constitutional liberties, and repressed opposition.
Post-war refuge: After World War II, Pern's government, seeking skilled professionals, provided refuge to numerous Nazi officials fleeing prosecution in Europe. "

Its sad how Newt has to rewrite history to prop up his laughable comparison.

@#17 ... "If the American big government socialists do for the United States what Juan Peron and the Argentinian socialists did for their country, every American will rapidly become poorer." ...

Hey, welcome back after a couple-week hiatus.

OK, to your comment, why do Republicans seem to be so concerned that Mr Mamdani might succeed in his promises to voters?

Might it be because it will diminish the power-buying aspect of the oligarchy that Pres Trump has put into place in Washington, D.C.?

And, why the focus upon Argentina, and not, say, a Scandinavian socialist-leaning country?
