While the port side engine was engulfed in flames, the plane reached V1. In this situation, V1, the plane is commanded/piloted to get airborne (no stoppy on runway), though it may not, and in this case it didn't get too far.

The pilot is hoping for a go around.

Prayers to all involved.

The governor says at least three dead and 11 injured, with that number expected to rise. I could see the smoke blowing over my house. Awful.

President Plane Crash needs to shut down the airspace already.

Looks like an engine came off on takeoff and the debris trashed the other one. That's never good.

Redial,

"Looks like an engine came off on takeoff and the debris trashed the other one."

Worse than that.

I think they said, "uncontained engine failure".

Basically the engine came apart and the speed of the spinning parts flew out like shrapnel damaging hydraulics, electronics, etc.

The engine came off before impact, like you said.

Redial,

It was hauling freight, I believe. Only 3 on board.

Good thing is wasn't carrying uncounted ballots.

"Looks like an engine came off on takeoff and the debris trashed the other one."

Engine was still on the pylon at rotation. Looked like a compressor failure (small exhaust explosion #2), perhaps debris caused,

Looking at the TO video, the engine was on fire before V1 (smoke down runway). I wonder what the instruments were saying, perhaps ignored?

Anyhow, the UPS plane had just come out of a month-long maintenance. Right after maintenance is a very vulnerable time to fly a plane.

Why are we having so many plane crashes all of a sudden?

Real funny. God, what a depraved POS you are.

This is my home. We all know somebody who works for UPS, and we are hurting.

The latest count is at least 12 dead and 15 or more still unaccounted for.

Once you reach decision speed, you take the jet airborne and solve the problem there. I checked out the airport diagram for this airport, and they were on a 12k' foot runway. Their TOLD should have indicated that the decision speed was probably after the rotation speed. That would also be weird, because at least in the jet I flew, there was an acceleration check prior to decision speed to ensure that you were achieving the correct amount of thrust. Maybe the pilots were just slow in recognizing the problem.
