It's fair to take it from the rich to the extent they took it from others.
There are several billion dollars that are screaming to be clawed back from the Trump family, for instance.

"the rich"
roughly defined by most here as anyone who has more money than themselves
but it's not about envy...........LOL

I knew a man a long time ago who got paid twice, double what he legally earned. Out of greed or stupidity or both he kept the money, a few hundred dollars. The "theft" was discovered, and he blew his brains out out of shame.
If Donald Trump had a sense of shame, he'd have been dead many decades ago.

Zed generates a fair amount of sympathy here.
It's not fair to say it's a defense because it's been done so goddam poorly.
Nobody here wants to define "rich" because they know the Democratic Party will not touch an idea like this ... ..and because they don't want to admit they want to stick it to anybody better off than themselves.

Can't define rich. Can't define a living wage. Can't define what minimum wage should be.
Deficits. Your party spends more than our party. That means your party doesn't care about debt. Our party cares more because we add less debt than you.
The USS Lincoln has bad conditions. The cruise ship isn't offering all the amenities. Damn, the rest of the convoy has it good.
The US has 900+ foreign military bases. US law demands the US have 60,000+ troops in Europe! WWII ended in 1945.
Afghanistan: the US took too long to withdraw. Really? How long is too long?
If the US recognized the ICC, both parties would have members arrested for Crimes against Humanity.
Close the borders, scorch earth the military bases, and bring everything and everyone home to the borders.

I think that we'd all like to get to a place where the possession of money is some true measure of personal merit.
