Deaths of Pregnant Women in Texas Skyrocket

The number of women in Texas who died while pregnant, during labor or soon after childbirth skyrocketed following the state's 2021 ban on abortion care -- far outpacing a slower rise in maternal mortality across the nation, a new investigation of federal public health data finds. From 2019 to 2022, the rate of maternal mortality cases in Texas rose by 56%, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period,

MAGA and Texas Republicans do not consider this a problem. No more than they do random elementary schools being massacred by AR-15s.

The fact is, that in order to MAGA to get what it wants, it is going to enforce a certain level of barbarity.

#2 | Posted by Zed at 2024-09-21 08:51 AM

They see barbarity as sytaight, white male privelege. If a straight white male kills a black drag quee is it really a crime?

#3 | Posted by danni at 2024-09-21 09:33 AM

More to the point would straight, white police officers consider it a crime? That question exists in may police departmets across this nation today. Now the real question: Can a Christian tolerate that without proaecuting the police officer? Can a Christian accept inequal enforcement of our laws, up to and including a white, tich President who thinks he should not be subject to the same laws as the rest of us?

#4 | Posted by danni at 2024-09-21 09:40 AM

If only Julian Castro had been nominated in 2020, transgender women would have access to abortions and the maternal drag queen mortality rate would be lower.

#5 | Posted by sentinel at 2024-09-21 09:41 AM

According to the charts, the mortality rate went DOWN for all groups in 2022, except for white women. But don't let facts get in the way of a goofy narrative.

Texas is 695,662 sq km.

#10 | Posted by sentinel at 2024-09-21 09:59 AM

with just 11% nationwide

As if 11% is something to be proud of? We already live in an OECD nation* that was the worst for maternal mortality of all other OECD nations. Then Trump, the MAGAts, and the Sharia Supremes have driven it up and average of 11% more! Keep in mind that's an average and half the states are driving the increase with their draconian laws. That makes that 11% much higher in those states.

*need to fact check that - I'm going by memory. IIRC we're way above the next highest nation.

Abortion is against the law in Texas.

Rich MAGAS can still go south of the border, down Mexico way, and never have to admit what vicious hypocrites they are.

Someone saying it (lack of abortion kills) on a mostly leftist patriot and Trump hating forum like this is going to be like always, and mostly fluff and propaganda. Just like it was when they claimed conservatives were going after the Governor of Michigan, and the Border Patrol going after and whipping illegals, only to find out it was all lies and baloney like most things from the left. Or Charlottesville or even the more vile January 6. They talk but say nothing and offer no back up. All political lies.

The left spent years convincing low IQ, low info voters Trump is bad because the shills can not control him. I have no more time for the liars and propagandists. The bad comes from a perpetually lazy axxed Kamala that knows nothing, says nothing and does nothing and was never elected to do anything. Kamala needs a clothes pin on her nose and more importantly a brain behind her words. Until then prove what comes out of a leftist mouth with objective facts. There is only politics from the left, but no sense.

OK, so how about a national healthcare plan without high deductibles or co-pays or profits or high executive salaries oe bonuses? You''ll never actually fis healthcare in the United States as long as it is based on profits. I'm all for profits on most things but not healthcare. And now that we're discussing idustries that should not be for profit? Prisons!

Cherry-picking the data is not gainsaying what was said in the summary:

Thread isn't about the national; No it's Texas under Abbott!

Sure it's about national, you have to compare it to something to determine if it's really a problem.

For instance in CA

In 2021 Pregnancy-related deaths increased nearly 70% in California. What caused the spike?
Read more at:
www.sacbee.com

So what caused the surge in 2021?

Unless you go through each and everyone of the cases we can't say its due to abortion access.

#32 | Posted by oneironaut at 2024-09-21 12:39 PM

Seems the US in general is having problems.

The United States continues to have the highest rate of maternal deaths of any high-income nation, despite a decline since the COVID-19 pandemic. And within the U.S., the rate is by far the highest for Black women. Most of these deaths " over 80 percent " are likely preventable
www.commonwealthfund.org

Cherry-picking the data is not gainsaying what was said in the summary:

The article cherry-picks data from Texas, when not compared national or globally.

One thing that the Trump Abortion ban states have managed to create is massive health care deserts for pregnant people. OBGYNs are leaving these states or retiring rather than have a bunch of know-nothing Talibaptists tell them how to practice medicine, and it they treat a patient as necessary to save her life they risk prison, in some states for the rest of their lives. That's why maternal morality is what it is. I suspect if you further broke down that 11% for the other 49 states, the Trump Abortion Ban states would see considerably higher rates than the blue states where abortion is legal and OGBYNs are more plentiful.

Per the headline, I see Trump's Plan is working... less women voting against him.

#36 | Posted by Corky at 2024-09-21 01:02 PM

The DR fascists just have to pivot a little. You see, the rise in both maternal and infant mortality rates was initially a good thing because it mostly affected "those people," but now that it's also affecting white women, it's even better! Blame Obamacare!

Election day is going to be interesting, especially in the sovereign State of Texas. You gotta wonder if even straight up murder would sway a few more women to secretly vote for their interests...we'll see if the MAGA crowd really wants to relive the 1770's.

#37 | Posted by chuffy at 2024-09-21 01:09 PM

GUNSLINGER i don't know if you live in Florida where we have Amendment 4 (right to abortion) coming up for vote in November and political ads on TV trying to sway voters both btsoth pro and con.Probably the best ad for the right to abortion is a elderly doctor talking about the existing bans on abortion which could cause him to go to prison for giving a pregnant woman the healthcare services she needs to save her life.I try to look at things from both sides but that abortion ban is costing women's lives and many of them are already mothers so if they die it is a trajedy for their children too. I have very little patience for these Christian anti-abortion activists these days and that doctor makes the case pretty clear why abortion is healthcare sometimes and putting doctors at risk of prison is just an evil idea.

Gosh if hadn't tried to "cherry pick" the article and read it you world know what caused the spike.

FTA:

The spike came during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition: This was still lower than the United States' pregnancy-related mortality rate during that time: 24.9 deaths per 100,000 live births.

Exactly.

States with laws like Texas' are actively degrading the level of medical care available to the people of those states.
