Harris' Conservative Culture Play

KAMA! From camo hats to libertarian rhetoric, the Kamala Harris campaign is staking its claim to symbols of conservative identity.

Even as she advocates for gun control measures, she used the comments to signal not only that she didn't support confiscating guns, but that she has a personal stake in the Second Amendment.

Zoom out: The comments follow a pattern of Harris and Walz claiming rhetorical turf that has long been held by Republicans.

Harris' campaign launch video was centered around "freedom," a pervasive conservative rallying cry for resisting liberal policies on taxation, gun control and government regulation.

Harris and Walz are using it to advocate for abortion rights and fight interventionist policies like school book bans and curriculum directives.

Tim Walz's biography " his rural Nebraska upbringing, football coaching experience and everyday dad persona " serve to build up the ticket's Middle America credentials. And his "mind your own damn business" refrain taps into a libertarian sensibility.

These embraces have caught on as Democratic rallying cries this campaign."

The camouflage Harris-Walz campaign hat instantaneously sold out.

... KAMA! From camo hats to libertarian rhetoric, the Kamala Harris campaign is staking its claim to symbols of conservative identity ...

Yeah, when Democrats sew the American Flag on to the back pocket of their jeans and then, at a rally, sit on the ground, grinding that American Flag into the dirt...

That is when I will believe the Democrats are lowering themselves to staking their claim to the symbols of the current conservative identity.

I was born in the Eisenhower administration and it's taken me this long to see the Democrats have their $#!+ together.

Recognizing Hilly's big mistake.
The whole "deplorables" thing was a political mistake of the highest order and, more likely lost her the election than anything Comey or CNN did. Alienating a large chunk the population and giving them something to rally around was just about the stupidest thing I've seen in 60 years, politically speaking.

#4 | Posted by morris at 2024-09-22 12:26 AM

@#4 ... The whole "deplorables" thing was a political mistake of the highest order ...

I do not disagree.

Did that mistake lose her the election?

I'm not there yet.

So?

That was, at a minimum, 40 years ago.

Small businesses (such as a McDonald's franchise), would NOT maintain HR records for 40 years.

Learn to live with disappointment, comrade.

And stop sh*tposting.

It is boring, predictable, and entirely made-up.

While you people might think that everyone is as stupid and gullible as you are, most people are not.

You're welcome.

"It is boring, predictable, and entirely made-up."

I dunno, this Stolen McValor conspiracy is so lame it's actually quite funny. It actually helps Harris more than anything.

#27 | Posted by sentinel at 2024-09-22 03:12 PM

There is a gap in her recent resume. She only talks about jobs she's supposedly held years the past. In her ads and at at her rallys she never mentions what she's been doing the last 3.5 years.

#28 | Posted by visitor_ at 2024-09-22 03:16 PM

Trump tries to overturn and election, and Visidiot is worried about the other candidate's resume details?

It's almost like he's not playing with a full deck.

#29 | Posted by Corky at 2024-09-22 03:23 PM

I bought my uncle, who's also a hunter, a HARRIS camo hat. Since he lives in a more rural part of Wisconsin, I first called to ask if he'd feel comfortable wearing it. He replied that he'd love to, and that most of his neighbors were anti-Trump too.

"We're going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community, and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs,"

Believe them when they tell you.
-sanctity of your locked home
-we're going to walk into that home

If home is locked, how are you gonna do that? Break in?

This quote was made in 2007, which never includes the entire statement she made.

The law was also passed in 2007, guess how many homes were just 'walked into'? Pick a number between 0 and 0 and you'll be on the right track.

She never said due process would be ignored and it hasn't.

Park the ManGinas and the Faux Outrage. It's only an issue because it's an election year.

#35 | Posted by zarnon at 2024-09-22 07:21 PM

Full quote: With the rate of homicides that we've been seeing and certainly our focus on that and our concern about it, it's just time and it's the right thing to do. And getting back to that earlier question, I mean I think that the people who are going to oppose mostly what we're doing is the NRA, and they are not African Americans and people who live in this community and are traumatized by violence every day, It's people who own guns who are quietly sitting on those guns and those guns might end up being the weapons of the destruction of a community because they get into the hands of some kid who decides that they like what they see on television and they want to act that way. So this is about just basically saying that we're going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn't mean that we're not going to walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.

The words "at any time" were not used. The police would need probable cause to enter the home and a warrant to search it. She didn't say that because it's obvious to her as a district attorney at the time (and should be obvious to everybody else) that randomly searching homes without a warrant and probable cause is unconstitutional.

This was a discussion of a law as-passed. The law itself did not say anything about police entering your home to search, let alone "at any time", and this law has been on the books for 17 years now and it's never happened that police in SF entered a home to perform a random spot check of somebody's guns. The fact that it's never actually happened should be more than enough proof to show this isn't what Kamala meant.

#36 | Posted by zarnon at 2024-09-22 07:24 PM

Kamala continues to repeat that she "worked at McDonald's" without evidence. It's lie unless she can provide proof.

Harris is the VPOTUS? She should talk that up, unless she's ashamed of her dismal performance in this excrable administration.

#38 | Posted by visitor_ at 2024-09-22 08:39 PM

She keeps saying "a new way forward." Is she disavowing Biden?

If we had a functional media she would get asked about all of her reversals. But we don't.

#39 | Posted by BellRinger at 2024-09-22 08:56 PM

What's even more dysfunctional is your Party.

But it obviously takes more than a criminal traitor to get you to admit it and not support it.

Like many communist leaders of times gone by, Harris uses the old "I'm like you - I have a gun and if anyone breaks into my home, they're getting shot" until they gain power. Then they don't want you to have a gun anymore. Harris doesn't have a conservative molecule in her body. In fact just not long ago she revealed what I've been wanting to know in an interview. She knows there's no way around the 2nd with out a constitutional convention so she plans to keep ramping up the pressure on (legal) gun owners. How so? with home inspections to come lookey-loo at what you have. What guns you own (inventory), how many and how they're stored...etc....

This will not end well.

BREAKING NEWS!

Kamala doesn't have proof that she ran a lemonade stand in the summer of 1972.

Film at 11!

We had eight years of "Obama is taking our guns!" that never materialized.

I for one loved the time that the rightwingtards were all clutching their pearls over Obama invading Texas, which has been part of the United States since 1845.

They sure don't seem to mind when he invaded them with FEMA money though.

She is so incredibly phony. She is campaigning almost completely 180 from where she was 4 years ago and what she has supported as VP for the last 3.5 years.

She's run a shadow campaign. My hope is that as people become engaged as we approach the election they will notice she is a vacuous candidate with no stated policies who tries to pretend to be a "new way forward" but doesn't define what that means and doesn't disavow herself from Biden's policies.

#51 | Posted by BellRinger at 2024-09-25 12:32 AM

I don't care. My first presidential vote was in '72 for Nixon, later royally regretted. I'm a Reagan republican lite that's voted all over the ballot. My first impression of the Buffoon was formulated sometime after I first had cable TV, he's a narcissistic con that thinks he's better than anyone else. Basically a POS human. I will vote against a Buffoon presidency under any circumstance ever. I don't care, do you?

#54. Et Al,

I completely agree with your characterization.

I vote for policy. I can't stand Trump. He botched Covid and he's a pretty awful person.

Outside of Covid I liked his policies and results more than disliked.

I voted 3rd party and probably will again. Having said that as a conservative or center right voter how can I choose Harris based upon policy?

You can vote FOR someone next time. That's what a patriot would do, not throw away their vote on vanity candidates.
