Thinking Biden and Harris Were Weak on the Border's Wrong

Alexander Stockton - The Opinion video above tells the little-known story of how Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris worked behind the scenes to get the border crisis under control. I found that they acted strategically, out of the spotlight, since the earliest days of the administration. They even bucked their own party and fulfilled Republican wishes, though they've gotten little credit for it. Their hard work finally paid off when illegal crossings dropped significantly this year.

In politics, there's the story that gets told in public, and then there's what really happened behind closed doors. In this case, those two narratives are worlds apart. And Ms. Harris is paying for it. When polled, a majority of voters said they believed Donald Trump would handle immigration better than Ms. Harris.

If voters knew how Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris actually handled the border crisis, they'd most likely have a different opinion of which candidate could be trusted on this cornerstone issue.

The 16 minute video details exactly what Biden and Harris accomplished as it regards stemming the tide of migrant immigration from a number of Central American countries due to the lack of economic opportunities for the people walking thousands of miles in order to reach America.

Spoiler alert: It's not the demagogic story which right wing media and Trump supporters have been pushing for the last 4 years.

"The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

They undid all of the Trump policies that were proven to be effective.

Then, their actions after that sparked a massive surge for just about the entirety of their term with catch and release', rewriting the parole program' so that it didn't apply to individual cases but a mass influx. When Texas put up barriers to entry the fEd's ripped them down.

If the goal was, "Let's maximize illegal entry and see how much chaos we can create," I dont know what they could have possibly done differently. The most powerful clothes washer on the planet doesn't have a spin cycle that even remotely approaches this.

For years lying Mayorkas and other Dems told us the border is secure while Fox News and Bill Mallugin spent every day showing us it was not secure and hoardes were invading and tearing us down. Biden and Harris should be charged with high crimes and treason for the massive harm they did to every citizen.

#4 | Posted by Robson at 2024-10-31 06:49 AM

Dems need to pay an enormous price for their abject failure to defend our borders and our laws while they were in power. Now they want to give invaders what is left of your Medicare and Social Security. Im surprised Americans did not rise up in mass against this attack on our democracy and invasion.

They really should be a lot "weaker".

Right now would be a really good time to announce an open border policy for Palestinians. You know, because of the GENOCIDE that purported ally and actual enemy state Israel is carrying out.

This is definitely in the top 5 most dishonest things I've seen posted here.

When Trump made it hard for illegals to enter our country all I heard over here is how inhumane he was. Now that it's a huge issue in this election, the Democrats want to project a tough stance on illegal immigration onto Joe and Kamala.

"According to the latest data from the Refugee Processing Center, the Biden administration is on track to resettle 92,979 refugees this fiscal year, up from 60,014 last year in FY 2023."

Tony's posts do a great job of highlighting huge vulnerabilities in the Harris campaign.

Here's the actual problem with Trumpers: They're ignorant. Totally. Fully. Completely.

They stay inside their own bubble and have no idea what happens outside. Reality is called that because it's REAL. There are receipts for every single thing that was done which has gotten us to today - the lowest level of attempted border crossings since the last decade. There are records being kept. The books are not cooked.

Just because they don't know about something doesn't mean that it isn't true. Real changes are what the title refers to and here are the details:

Under the LA declaration, the Biden-Harris administration has secured unprecedented cooperation to curb irregular migration. Today, for example, Mexico is doing more to stem irregular migration to the United States than it has ever done before. The administration also created alternatives to irregular migration so that individuals fleeing Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela - the primary sources of instability in the hemisphere - could come to the United States in a sponsored, orderly fashion and be able to legally work shortly after arrival so as to contribute to U.S. prosperity and enhance stability in their home countries without delay.

Critically, the LA declaration built on successful migrant integration efforts in Latin America and spurred multiple countries to create new temporary legal status programs for migrants in order to stabilize these populations and to provide an alternative to migrating further. In May 2024, countries such as Ecuador, Colombia, and Costa Rica at the third ministerial meeting on the LA declaration announced regularization programs for various irregular migrant populations - building on the nearly 2 million Venezuelans who had already been provided status in Colombia alone. Today, more than 80 percent of those displaced in Latin America and the Caribbean have found a home in the region and have not proceeded to the U.S.-Mexico border.

They have no earthly idea that Biden and Harris made this happen. They don't know what it is and they refuse to consider its effect on lowering the numbers of migrants appearing at our borders trying to cross.

Ignorance isn't bliss, it's simply the state of partisan know-nothings - wallowing in it - still trying to deny that the hard work put in by Biden and Harris has caused the drop of migrants trying to cross our southern border. Never trust nor listen to the ignorant for they don't even know what they don't know.

Vice President Kamala Harris and Migration in the Americas: Setting the Record Straight

Achieving sustainable order at the U.S.-Mexico border - something all Americans rightly expect - is possible only through working on migration at all points along the migratory chain that extends into Latin America and well beyond. Vice President Harris' work in northern Central America and the Biden-Harris administration's efforts through the LA declaration have set the United States up for precisely that kind of sustained order - but only if elected leaders turn away from weaponizing immigration and work on real solutions.

When Trump made it hard for illegals to enter our country all I heard over here is how inhumane he was. Now that it's a huge issue in this election, the Democrats want to project a tough stance on illegal immigration onto Joe and Kamala.

It was inhumane to separate families seeking refuge in America.

This isn't about "projecting" anything. It's about the very thing Trumpers continue to mock out of their own ignorance: Dealing with migration at the source, not just at our own border. This isn't what should be done, it's what already has been done that now finds us with the lowest number of migrants in over 5 years.

But none of the critics above will bother to read what they don't know. They'll continue to wrongly call me a purveyor of false information, when I'm not. The LA Declaration is real and it's been working to stop migration at its source. And in conjunction with other countries, a system has been created and actuated that keeps migrants in their home countries or other countries between their homes and the US.

This is a plan, and it's been working as we see from current border crossing statistics.

"When Trump made it hard for illegals to enter our country all I heard over here is how inhumane he was. Now that it's a huge issue in this election, the Democrats want to project a tough stance on illegal immigration onto Joe and Kamala."

In all our lifetimes, politicians have been massive hypocrites on this issue.

Look at the campaign ads this cycle. It's been the same forever.

All our ills are due to illegal immigration. LOL

The dems ignore the problem because they want new voters

The repubs ignore the problem because they want the cheap labor for their donors.

These accusations have been the same forever and they won't ever change.

Because this system works as intended. We NEED the labor, we really aren't scared of letting these people in despite the faux outrage during an election. It's absolutely necessary to have them here. Come illegally or legally. Nobody really gives a crap either way. If they manage to stand up and actually stand firm on a policy....they're going to be branded a racist.

oh right, the number of illegals seeking to enter the US, by the hundred thousand.

So 1.5 million for Don. 8.9 million for Biden.

It's not a winnable issue for Dems, and explains Tony's marching orders to come tell everybody how great they're doing despite it being the #2 campaign issue only behind inflation.

#22 | Posted by reinheitsgebot at 2024-10-31 10:59 AM

I did find that the ass that information came from was the House Republican report - which calls it "encounters" and then cites 1.7 million as "gotaways" (assumed entered illegally, but no real proof of that or just fear drove them to "get away").

The fact is, however, Republicans have turned this into a story that they do well pushing. They leverage misinformation and misrepresentation of the data actually is all about.

#23 | Posted by YAV at 2024-10-31 11:00 AM

"behind inflation".

And speaking of inflation (which is under control again) we have yet to see any detailed plan by Trumplicans to reduce the cost of living for Americans.

Can you name one thing Trumpy has proposed that reduce prices for middle class Americans?

People objected to Trump's family separation policies. It turns out that when he prioritized family separations, he deprioritized criminals crossing the board:

Donald Trump has portrayed his immigration policies as good for public safety. He said this month that he had the "safest" immigration policy in history. However, data obtained by the Cato Institute through the Freedom of Information Act challenges this narrative. The newly uncovered information shows that while the Trump administration (2017"2020) was prioritizing prosecutions of migrant parents, separating families, and banning asylum, it also released criminals, including those who went on to commit crimes.

During the height of family separation, Trump deprioritized prosecuting migrants with criminal histories to instead spend resources on separating families;

While Trump poured resources into detaining asylum seekers, he also released nearly 58,184 noncitizens with criminal records, including 8,620 violent criminals and 306 murderers;

PS In order to prioritize family separations, Trump undid Obama's immigration priorities:

On his fourth day in office, Trump signed an executive order rescinding Obama-era policies that prioritized the detention and removal of serious public safety threats;

Within a few months, his administration was secretly separating families, using prosecutorial resources to jail migrant parents and focusing resources on visa overstays, not serious criminals;

So, yes, Obama and now Biden (Harris) were/are better on the border than the demagogue Trump.

The estimates in this summary draw upon various sources that analyze migration trends, including data and reports from the following:

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) " Annual immigration reports, which provide insights into unauthorized border crossings and adjustments made due to enforcement and policy changes.

Pew Research Center " Studies on U.S. immigration trends, including estimates on the unauthorized immigrant population, often derived from government data and their own research.

Migration Policy Institute (MPI) " Regular reports on immigration trends, including unauthorized migration, with adjustments based on policy impacts.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) " Yearly apprehension and entry statistics, which provide a rough proxy for attempted and successful illegal crossings, especially under changing administrative policies.

Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) " Various reports, especially for later years like 2021-2024, estimating border apprehensions and entry success rates under different enforcement conditions.

Each source contributes specific data points or trends used to approximate unauthorized entry estimates and respond to enforcement levels at the border. Some values are interpolated based on year-over-year trends due to the varying granularity of available data.

His treatment of them, in particular children, was indeed inhumane. Kids watching other kids including infants and toddlers separated from their parents and put in dog kennels? Christ man. We are the richest "Christian" nation in the world and that's the best the GOP "Christians" can manage?

It wasn't that he was trying to limit illegal immigration that was the problem. The video also nicely points out the surge underway at the end of his presidency. It's like trying to blame Obama for the economic collapse that started on Bush's watch.

What is amazing is that under Biden and without the help of Congress and the GOP, Biden and Kamala turned the flow around. That said, there is no way anyone actually "secures" the border. Israel can't secure the border to Gaza from Egypt which is like a mile long and pretty flat yet we are going to secure 2000 miles with Mexico and that doesn't include the ocean... Keep in mind the Northern border also needs it now.

Or it depends entirely upon conditions in the places they are coming from.

Who would have guessed?

Remember the migrant caravan you all whined about in 2018? So it wasn't real because Trump was in office? Or it was real and it was based upon conditions in the places they were coming from?
