'You Could Have Made a Deal': Trump Blames Ukraine

Donald Trump has taken aim at Ukraine after its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said it was a "surprise" that his country was not invited to peace talks in Saudi Arabia to end the Ukraine war. T

"A deal"

yeah, that is how Pres trump looks at the world.

A deal with beneficial business aspects.

Who cares about democracy and freedom. So long as "a deal" has been made.

That's why Pres Trump seems to be selling Ukraine down the river to Pres Putin.

Pres trump wants a deal he can crow about.

Never mind the longer term aspects that deal imposes upon the freedom-loving people of Ukraine.

Pres Trump reached A Deal with his puppet master Pres Putin.

I would like to think that Europe and the rest of the Free World will help Ukraine fight on.

That's right. The idea that the United States is still part of the Free World is no longer tenable.

After three years of the Russians using up so much of their military resources in Ukraine, they offer not much in their cheap threats to the Baltic states , Poland and the NATO countries, other than nukes. Of course, nuking London would mean the slaughter of hundreds of Russian oligarchs (which might be part of Vlad's scheme). I suspect the Poles, Germans and Baltic folks remember the end of WWII, and will want some sort of payback. Such memories die hard in some parts of the world...

Stupidity or viciousness.

They made a deal years ago, and russia (like trump would) failed to honor it. They gave up their nukes in exchange for a promise they would not be invaded. "The result was the Trilateral Statement, signed in January 1994, under which Ukraine agreed to transfer the nuclear warheads to Russia for elimination. In return, Ukraine received security assurances from the United States, Russia and Britain;"

#6 | Posted by bat4255 at 2025-02-20 01:52 PM

It kinda sounds like what Germany did to Russia in WW II, only in reverse.

#7 | Posted by bat4255 at 2025-02-20 01:59 PM

Translation:

"you could have let Russia and the USA carve you up, blackmail you to hand over 50% of your heavy earths to us for dozens of years until we decide if you've "repaid us" enough, then still lose the eastern 20% of your country to the people who murdered and raped and kidnapped and tortured your people, OR you could resist this amazing and very generous offer."

It was your choice!

#8 | Posted by e1g1 at 2025-02-20 02:41 PM

@#8

A good summary, but also don't forget about Pres Trump telling Ukraine that the US does not care about the future security of Ukraine and that Ukraine may even cease to exist.

There's "an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once, shame on - shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."

The Americans told them to give up the nukes, and the Americans would defend them.

That's what the US did to Great Britain before WWII too

#12 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-02-20 03:31 PM

FDR stripped the UK of all its gold and negotiable reserves before agreeing to Lend Lease.

He told them Canada was not suitable as a destination for their monarchy in distress, only the Caribbean.
FDR deliberately structured US intervention to doom the British Empire and take it into American receivership.

UK only finished repaying WWII debt in 2006.

#13 | Posted by oneironaut at 2025-02-20 03:33 PM

In 1945, the US loaned the UK $4.34 billion to help the country avoid bankruptcy after it had devoted most of its resources to the war.

The UK deferred payments in 1956, 1957, 1964, 1965, 1968, and 1976 because exchange rates were considered impractical.

The final payment to the US was $83.25 million, and the final payment to Canada was $22.7 million.

The total amount paid back was almost double the amount borrowed in 1945 and 1946.

The last time Trump went poking around in the rife corruption of Ukraine, he got impeached for it. That's not happening this time around.

Apparently Zelenskyy didn't think Donald Trump would be back to finally settle this.

The other, was so sarcastic about Trump playing 4D chess that I thought it might have been written by Censored. The latter is really funny and I tried to post it (you all would have gotten a good chuckle out of it) but alas, posting a link to NRO is forbidden on this site.

campaign rally in Iowa, President Donald Trump cited an unsubstantiated news report to revive a widely debunked false narrative about Joe Biden's work in Ukraine on behalf of the Obama administration.

As we have reported more than once last year, Biden traveled to Kyiv as vice president and warned Ukraine's then-president, Petro Poroshenko, that the U.S. would withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees until Ukraine removed its prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin, who was widely viewed as corrupt.

#68 | Posted by LauraMohr at 2025-02-21 04:48 PM

Trump repeatedly cites Biden's January 2018 remarks as evidence that the former vice president pressured Ukraine to fire Shokin because he was investigating Burisma.

But, as we said, the evidence shows Biden was carrying out U.S. policy, and the United States was not alone in pressuring Ukraine to fire Shokin.

In February 2016, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde threatened to withhold $40 billion unless Ukraine undertook "a substantial new effort" to fight corruption after the country's economic minister and his team resigned to protest government corruption. That same month, a "reform-minded deputy prosecutor resigned, complaining that his efforts to address government corruption had been consistently stymied by his own prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin," according to a Jan. 3, 2017, Congressional Research Service report.

It was purely coincidental that Hunter Biden was being paid to be on the board with Burisma, doing pretty much nothing while being paid $80K per month when Biden waved his big stick to end an investigation into Burisma, or else.

That "fact-check" is 100% self-contradictory. Are you so stupid that you think that disproved anything?

Face facts Jeff. You got fact checked and skewered in the process. Take the L and move on.

Um, no, Laura Mohr. That couldn't be further from the truth. I posted a video of Biden in his own words.

"That "fact-check" is 100% self-contradictory."

No it's not. It's clear as day, unless you've convinced yourself beforehand. In that case, you're 100% too stupid to understand it.

"Here he is in his own words"

You didn't get the update? Here is Fox News, later, admitting why he was NOT credible:

"when Biden waved his big stick"

Like I said, your news sources are morons. They clearly don't trust you with the whole truth.

Did you miss the fact-check part about Biden being one part of a large international team? That alone destroys your theory. Are you smart enough to realize as much?

It's purely coincidental that HuntercBiden benefitted tremendously from this. Biggest coincidence in mankind's history.

He was doing Yeoman's work for Burisma and brought SO much knowledge to the table in their industry. /. snark.
