Trump Preparing Cancellation of Funding for California

The Trump administration is preparing to cancel a large swath of federal funding for California, an effort that could begin as soon as Friday, according to multiple sources.

California pays about $50B-$80B more in taxes than it collects in benefits. So, by freezing them out of federal funds, it would only increase the federal deficit slightly - like 3%. So, Newsom does not have the strong negotiating power that he thinks he has. Also, Trump could utterly destroy California's economy by stopping all shipping into the state. He would simply order customs agents to not clear any shipping bound for CA import or export. This would put an immediate end to the state.

Dems think you hold the cards based on some minuscule 'tax paid' argument. You don't.

California's GDP size is meaningless if it is running at a deficit to the US government. As it stands, right now it is about $50B in the black on a federal level - better than other states but by no means a huge prize. At a state level, it is at least -$13B this year even with all the proposed cuts. CA is not the growth engine it was back 20 years ago. But, let's use the +$50B contribution - in essence, the entire state produces less of a contribution that Apple - which has profits of almost $100B. Now, it is just treading water given the poor governors and legislature.

But it's also funny when they think they will be able to keep ALL of California. You probably would only be able to keep about 200 miles of the coast adjacent to LA, SF and the other ghetto ---- holes. Northern and southern California are conservative in nature and I highly doubt will be in any mood to be lumped in with whatever is succeeding from the union.
