Cattle farmers and agricultural groups are voicing opposition to President Donald Trump's plan to import Argentine beef in an effort to address record-high prices.
A White House lunch on Tuesday was supposed to celebrate GOP unity on the shutdown. But farm-state Republicans also let Trump know they are not happy about his idea to buy more beef from Argentina -- one of U.S. ranchers' biggest competitors -- in order to lower food prices.

Argentine peso weakens to fresh low despite US interventions
The Argentine peso has fallen below the level it reached before the US Treasury began purchases earlier this month, in a sign that the Trump administration's financial support is failing to halt the currency's slide ahead of a crucial election for libertarian president Javier Milei.
The peso dropped almost 1 per cent in early trading on Monday to 1,476 against the dollar, touching a fresh record intraday low, before paring its losses. The level is close to the bottom of an exchange rate band adopted in April.
The slide has resumed despite three purchases of pesos by the US Treasury since October 9 " which Argentine economists estimate total roughly $400mn, although neither government has confirmed the figure " as well as the announcement of a $20bn currency swap line between the two countries.
No s*&^, moron.

The US already imports Beef from Argentina. Argentine beef accounts for about 2% " that even doubling that to 4% wouldn't change prices much as its typically just for ground beef.
Besides, beef imports are down overall because of the 50% tariffs that Trump imposed on Brazil, and limits on Mexico, where the country is fighting the screwworm.
For some reason, the US has a shortage of USDA slaughterhouses/processing. There's plenty of backlog.
I am surprised none of these ranchers are complaining about that.

Luckily for me, I buy my chicken, beef, pork, and lamb locally. You can do that too, you know. It's a little pricey, but you can't beat organic meat.

"Why the actual ---- would we buy Argentinian beef?"
We've been sourcing Argentinian beef for decades, and I believe it was Argentina and a few other countries that prevailed in a WTO case where now we have to de-specify Country Of Origin Labeling for beef and pork. (Edit. It was Canada and Mexico that sued and won.)
