But from what I recall there was not a political motive or any pressure on people to praise her decision.

She was a news story and nothing more.

Today, by contrast, we're are commanded to believe she literally became a woman and expressing criticism of that belief would be forbidden in some environments.

Ultimately, transgenders are not going to get certain accommodations. It's fairly obvious where things are headed now.

And even worse, laws will be passed now in states probably forcing them to lose their good thing of being able to use women's restrooms freely.

That's not true, and you don't get to put that on me. I knew people who were gender nonconforming long before this became political. I once lived immersed in the gay culture.

I had a friend who could wear jeans and a shirt and easily pass as female. At no point did he claim to be female, and I never treated him as such.

There has always been a meaningful dividing line between drag, men who cross dress for gratification, and people who identify as transgender and present that way on a daily basis.

What I've noticed today is those labels are being blurred, and I think some people are misusing the transgender label in ways that didn't used to be.

Acknowledging that difference isn't denying anyone's existence. It's refusing to pretend all categories mean the same thing.

I doubt actual transgenders, who are risk averse, would attempt this trickery understanding the danger. It actually does happen and sometimes ends up violently.

Your scenario sounds more like the drag culture, which is more closer to prostitution and casual sex encounters.
